Re: Undefined error

Hi Phil,

That's not an error message.

Your model is using the Vensim MESSAGE function. When you simulate the model, the criteria for displaying the message are met and so it appears on screen.

Have a look at the variables:

AptMessageString
AptDisplayMessage

Re: How to show annual values in a customized Bar Graph?

Hi Guido, I'm not sure I fully understand your requirement from this thread. But, if it is just a case of being able to create a Vensim bar chart with annual results to display, one method I have used in the past is to use subscripting. It is maybe not the most elegant or efficient of methods, but i...

Re: missing arrows

Are the missing arrows from Initial Variables, such as the starting value of a Level? If so, the default option in Vensim is to hide these. To change the default, go to Model>Settings>Sketch and check the first option.

Re: Using dataset in PLE

I don't think the option to use external data to drive the model is available in Vensim PLE, only higher versions. Check out the vensim version comparison chart http://vensim.com/comparison/ In versions where it is available, once the external data has been imported to vensim format, you have to spe...

Re: need help..

To add a bit to Tom's rule of thumb. When using a delay function, such as a 3rd order delay, I was told many years back to use the following rule to calculate the maximum size of the time step allowed: Min(Delay Time) / 4n where n is the order of the delay In the attached model, although you have no...

The Y axis has multiple scales. Jobs has a range of 0 to 100,000, whereas Labour Force is 0 to 200,000.

If you look at a table output it should confirm this. Looks to me that jobs reaches near 100,000 and labour force is around 120,000 at month 60.

AJ, If you are not using a customized tool set, then you will not need to use the check box. The model drop down box in Sable>Workspace>Properties is the only one which "has" to have a valid entry. So, as long as your VPM file is listed and selected that should be okay. With regards to you...

AJ, The PLE thing is probably just a coincidence, but it was the only piece of information I could see in the manual as to why the toolset check box would be unavailable. I'm sure when either Bob or Tony see your posting they will know immediately where the problem lies. I did notice on an earlier p...

AJ, I moved your post to the Vensim section. I can't think of a reason why the toolset option would be unavailable. Normally the tool set option is only greyed out if you are using PLE/PLE PLus. Have you previously had PLE installed on your computer ? At the bottom of the Publish dialogue box in the...

Thanks Tony, tried that but still no joy. The VCVars command files runs ok, Simext.c compiles okay, and the startup path is correct. The first line it falls over on in mdl.c is: void VEFCC comp_rate(void) { mdl_func0(); } With my minute amount of C programming knowledge, could it be anything to do w...

Compiling model

I'm trying to compile a model from Vensim 5.9. The compiler I'm using is Visual C# Express 2008 Edition. After editing MDL.BAT to reset the path statements etc to c:\program files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\.... and recompiling the Simext.c ,when i get to the step to compile the actual model I get ...

sounds like the variable "enterprise revenue" has been specified as an external DATA type, ie it has no equation and its values will be contained in a separate vdf file. You need to put the name of the vdf file containing its values in the "Data Sources" entry, under the Advanced...

Karan I don't think its the basing of "production rate" on "average production rate" that is the issue. That is often used to create a stable production rate with additional fluctuation in demand. It's a very long time since I've looked at Cosmic models. Fortunately I found a flo...

Could be one of two things if I understand you question 1) You are using the Vensim Model Reader instead of Vensim PLE,Pro or DSS 2) Your model has been closed , from the Vensim menu bar you need to go File>Open Model>*** first, then the Sketch Tools should reappear Please post in the Vensim users f...

JJ, Sorry I've only just noticed your post. I will try and have a look at your models over the festive period. I initially assumed the problem was 'just' an academic course question. Merry Christmas

I'm feeling in a festive mood, so have a look at the attached model, though I'm sure others will probably better ways of doing this. I've create the model in Vensim DSS, but it should open in any Vensim version. But please take time to look through the equations and logic structure to understand how...

There are many ways of doing this. I have attached a revised version of your model with one such method. See if it helps. It's probably easier you use a lookup table, but I find this a little more flexible if the number of subscript elements is likely to change. I increased the final time to two years

Model Reader with Compile Models

IS it possible to run compiled simulations through the Vensim Model Reader? I've tried several ways, but so far with no success. I have created SIM.DLL and SIMDLL32 with a binary model, but although it runs the compiled version in DSS, it's the much slower version in the Reader. Also tried packaging...

Hi Hendrik, Have a look at the little attached model, I think from your description this is what your trying to do. I have broken the method down into a model structure rather than use the Vector_sort_order function, as when I started doing things like this the function wasn't around. Beware however...

Claudio, In your model your TIME STEP is sest to 1 year. Hence the level accuracy you can go to in analysing the doubling time is to the closest integer year. In the model you listed, you can only say the the population doubled somewhere between year 1 and year 2. Set your time step to a smaller bin...
