Can system dynamics models "learn"
Greetings, To me, the concept of "learning" implies an awareness of change in knowledge. Thus, for a system dynamics model to "learn" means not only that it must be aware of what new information it has gained, but what information it does not possess. Then, it must be able to det...

community health & evidence -a role for system dynamics?
Hello, Im howling in protest! Just because one uses a regression analysis to develop a rationale for using a number does not mean the number is "robust." What do you mean by the term "robust?" I bristle at those within the forecasting community who think and believe that the stan...

community health & evidence -a role for system dynamics?
In a message dated 1/24/02 7:38:32 AM, jgunkler@sprintmail.com writes: << Mark Mackay asks if there is a role for SD in community health where little "evidence" is quantitative. I think there is. Hello All, I quite agree with the reply above. In System Dynamics, a basic rule is that one sh...

XFL Microworld
Hello. I recently constructed a web-based simulation device called The XFL Microworld, in using system dynamics and in something called Forio Macro Language (FML). The purpose of the simulator is to introduce the world of web-based business and policy simulators to the sports business (and other ind...

Bioethics simulations
Hello,
Im not an expert in bioethics, but it occurs to me that a possible base for
a good simulator exists in the World III model. It was developed to show
relationships between world resource use and population growth.

Economic Dynamics
Hi May, What I have most enjoyed about SD may be summed up in this joke I was sent a while ago: An economist was drawing a model describing forecasts of growth in milk production. The person referred to rates of change, and population of consumers, etc. But the SD person in the back of the room rais...

SD Models from Written Text
Hello, I must register my disagreement with this point of view. While Im not a fan of the development of this technology, the more I think about it, the more my point of view is changing. The major problem in SD, to me, is that the practitioners state that building representations of a system by usi...

Limitations of System dynamics?
Greetings, My personal point of view, due to spark controversy, is that nothing is too complex to represent with System Dynamics. The only limitation is the knowledge and imagination of the researcher / programmer, and the software that person is using. Moreover, and perhaps for reasons known best t...

This List and The System Dynamics Society
Hello, No. Its not a paranoia you are operating from, its a very sensitive observation and opens the door for some frank talk. On National Public Radio in the US, I heard this report: "A five-year old beat a financial expert and an astrologist in forecasting the British Stock market. The financ...

System Dynamcis work on terrrorism
Hello,
I would suggest looking at the High Performance Systems web site, and their
area on "stories." Theyve produced a healthy body of work on the subject of
terrorism.

Hello! Geoff Coyles e-mail came right on the "heels" of a discussion of the merits of establishing system dynamics as a "hard science," and my rather combative retort to his post, one deliberately designed to prod one to respond. So, since Im not a member of the System Dynamics S...

Validation of SD-models?
Greetings, I dont know how youve designed your model, but I would suggest backcasting. This is where you "set" the model back to a "time" in the past, before the intended period that the models run is to cover. Then, you run it "forward" and evaluate its output results ...

Problem Macroeconomics
Greetings, I must disagree with the posting. Im of the opinion that we should seek the development of one model capable of being adjusted to represent each country. Why? Well it goes back to this joke: An economist was writing equations on the board describing the growth of milk production and consu...

Hello, What examples are there of the matting of SD with common studies in Game Theory? For example, are there works featuring the graphing of equations using models developed in STELLA? ___________________________________________________________________ Zenophon Abraham From: zenabraham@aol.com
