Morecroft did a bunch of writing on this discussion, particularly in
suggesting his policy structure diagramming technique, which is sort of a
combination of stocks and flows and causal loops.

much to the actual learning from the model, but it can be incredible boring
and frustrating!

I use a package called powersim that is somewhere between ithink and vensim in capability, but it is very user friendly and quite robust.
