Re: Problem to run Vensim PLE after installation
My Windows user status has full permissions equiv to administrator. Windows' 'UAC message' was never shown. I am still none the wiser as to why my first two attempts at installing 6.3E resulted in a corrupted file message. Any light shed gratefully received.

Re: Problem to run Vensim PLE after installation
Problem solved. have re-downloaded 6.3E and reinstalled into a new folder and it opened.
The earlier re-run today may have failed due to a shortcut remaining from yesterday's corrupted file.
The question is how did it get corrupted?

Re: Problem to run Vensim PLE after installation
Am I missing something? I have repeated (version 6.3E) and got the same message. Where does it ask for "Administrator"?

Re: Problem to run Vensim PLE after installation
Indeed, have re-downloaded 6.3E, installed into a separate drive and got same message at end - do you want a copy?Administrator wrote:Are you sure Norman? I've just tried your licence info to download and install Vensim. I got 6.3E and it ran without issue.

Re: Problem to run Vensim PLE after installation
I've just tried downloading and installing version 6.3E of PLE plus and it failed with a message saying it "is corrupted - please reinstall" but on return to the website the button takes you to the 6.3D version.

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Vensim?
From a Monte Carlo run, if you graph one variable against another (‘Y on X’), Vensim does not pick up all the points. It is not clear which points a graph shows (perhaps the first simulation?) but it does not cover all, as those exported to excel can include points lying outside the range graphed. S...

Re: random seeds and infrequent events
Ok, thanks. Somehow the Get XLS Protocol in Options got switched to "OLE" from "Direct". Switching it back to "Direct" prevents the Excel sheet with the data inputs being opened. I hadn't reloaded Vensim. There had been some changes made in Windows.

Re: random seeds and infrequent events
Hi Thanks for this and apologies for not seeing it until today. Am applying different seeds to each parameter I vary in Monte Carlo runs now. One other thing, following a sort of PC catastrophe that wiped out all my emails and reset Windows - some kind of update it seems - a Vensim model with excel ...

Re: random seeds and infrequent events
Thank you for looking at this. I half expected you to say I was using the seeds wrongly - there's quite a lot about how the seeds work I don't understand! So there is interaction between the two streams. I think I can see this might happen if they both use the same seed. I added the Uniform draw on ...

Hi
.vsc file attached. It's as per this morning, repeating yesterday's results. Is this ok or do you need more data?

Re: random seeds and infrequent events
Each of the first three charts shows results from two Monte Carlo runs using different seeds for 'Random Seed 2' in the model. Each line in a chart is of 100 points, an average value for each simulation in the run.

Re: random seeds and infrequent events
Please find a copy of the model used attached. Results were got using version 6.3 PLE+ and exported final time data to tab file, parsed and saved in Excel, and have replicated them today. Perhaps I've missed something but can't see it. Good luck with it.

random seeds and infrequent events
A model generates an event using Random Poisson, multiplies it by an amount sampled from Random Normal and sends it into a flow. Sometimes there might only be a handful of such events. The average ‘amount’ per event varies between runs using different seeds and can have values consistently greater o...

Re: Statistics tool
Why not export your results to excel and automate with a macro? I've done this recently for a model's monte carlo results.

Re: Random Normal
Thanks. Ok, I think you're right. I had wondered whether I should have used n=10, as there were 10 runs, but with each run with 101 values, the sem for the overall mean presumably should have a denominator of root 99. I get the 5% point at 0.068, so clearly none of the 10 means are beyond it and you...

Re: Random Normal
Thank you for looking into this. I'm sorry but the previous runs I gave were Monte Carlo and the SD would have been the standard error. The SD would have been 0.37, which is closer to what you got. I have done 10 conventional (not monte carlo) runs of 100 steps, using different seeds, of Random norm...

Re: Random Normal
Thanks. It would be useful to hear exactly how the function works. I have never had any warnings with simulations. I did 10 runs using different seeds for Random Normal, with parameters (0,4, 0.25, 0.505, s), with s=0-9: please see results in attached. The mean of the 10 runs' output comes to 0.49, ...

Random Normal
Can you tell me what the Random Normal function does with values that would be negative when the minimum parameter is zero? This happens when the mean is relatively low - at least within a few SD. Perhaps I should use something else but I'd still like to know what the function is doing. It always pr...

Units errors with Smooth functions
Please could you explain how to eliminate units errors when using a Smooth function in PLE+? Units check within a variable using Smooth, says "Units OK", but Units Check produces an error for each variable using a smoothing function. The variable is dimensionless: the result of the smoothe...

Re: vdf file reader
I would just like to add that it is useful to export from Vensim PLE+ into Excel. For instance, it might be easier to add some other data and do some calculations with the results in excel - rather than add further auxilliary variables in Vensim. if you could automate the export function with VBA, i...
