issue with "Export units" option?
Hi, Wondering if anybody in the community when exporting results from VDFX uses both a LST file and also the option "Export units"? On both small and big models we are noticing that if you DON'T use LST and just export all variables from the model and if "Export units" is selecte...

Dear Administrator, just checking if this was included in Vensim 9.1.0 release?Administrator wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 8:51 am I'm fairly certain it cannot be done at present. But it seems like it could be easy enough to do. I'll create a ticket in our system to add it in a future release.

Re: Global variables in VDI files
Thank you Administrator, that would be very much appreciated as would render the VDI further efficient when using large SQL statements.I'm fairly certain it cannot be done at present. But it seems like it could be easy enough to do. I'll create a ticket in our system to add it in a future release.

Global variables in VDI files
Hello, Below is an example of some VDI code. Wondering if it is possible to declare in the VDI file at the start a global variable that you can then call in the SQL statements in the VDI file, so as to make the VDI code easier to update with such global variables. In the below case for example can w...
Re: VDF2TIDY
Thanks tomfid. In regards to "What's the use case for exporting the data from the simulation, rather than using the input data?" if you have the data in Excel, it goes into your vensim Model for example as a DATA variable. You then want to store it in the DW, so you use the export option o...
VDF2TIDY
Hi Vensim users, We are noticing that when using the command VDF2TIDY (described here https://www.vensim.com/documentation/vdf2tidy.html) it doesn't want to export data from a Vensim run if a given variable is defined as DATA. So effectively one has to create a passthrough variable of AUXILLIARY typ...

Vensim ODBC scenario selection via run name
Hi, Saw on https://www.vensim.com/documentation/values_by_scenario.htm that one can refer to the name of the current Vensim simulation run by using the character (!). Therefore if one has the below ODBC query, can one actually send the scenario name in the form of the character (!) to the select sta...

Re: Exporting UNITS is possible?
Thank you that would be great, as exporting UNITS is useful if you want to send the TIDY format directly to a data warehouse structure.

Exporting UNITS is possible?

Using VDF2TIDY is it possible to also export whatever is UNITS assigned to a given variable in Vensim?
Thanks, Pawel

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Vensim?
Our IT staff would appreciate the "silent install" option for Vensim in the future. More details here. Ideally, we would like to push the Vensim install out using System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). This allows to track our licence usage, and also orchestrate version updates in a m...

Greetings,
Our IT staff are wondering if in the long term Vensim could be designed for multithreading, because based on tests we did, seems Vensim is more designed for single-thread processing?

Greetings,
Our IT staff are wondering if for the long term vision of Vensim, if you have any plans to offer an MSI-based installer?
Based on some exchanges understand this is not planned at the moment.

Thank you for the confirmation. Do you also confirm that "For large models the double precision version of Vensim essentially takes twice the memory, so it should be used with discretion. For most business models there seems little to be gained from the added precision." ? Taken from https...

Vensim 8 without single precision?
Greetings, On this site https://vensim.com/september-newsletter-ventana-news-vensim-8-ventity-3-releases/ it mentions "All configurations of Vensim now use double floating point precision for both calculations and results storage" So does that mean as of Vensim 8, single precision is no lo...

Re: Vensim DSS 8 x64 DLL Issues
Dear Administrator, Anything else we should try and then communicate back to you, so as to resolve when we run the sample Excel97 code, Vensim throws up two errors. The first is a message box with a single ".", followed by a second message box saying "Reinstall Vensim (error 977)"...

Thank you Administrator for the prompt reply.
Unfortunately the same error messages we mention in original post still appear after downloading 8.0.6 and installing as Administrator.

Vensim DSS 8 x64 DLL Issues
Hi, We're looking to replace our age-old DDE code in Excel by using the Vensim DLL functionality, and at the same time move to the x64 version of Vensim 8. Right now we are stumbling at the first hurdle. When we run the sample Excel97 code, Vensim throws up two errors. The first is a message box wit...

TIDY data format & tableau
Dear Forum Participants,
Wanted to see if anybody has seen a useful tutorial that shows how to use the TIDY data format export from Vensim and then to use the data in a software called Tableau?
Thanks,
Pawel

Re: Exporting data without zeros
Thank you for the prompt reply.
Agree that this could be done in Excel with VB for example.
But still could be a useful tool to have in Vensim directly as would make the analysts concentrate more on the output of Vensim rather than manipulating it.

Exporting data without zeros
Hi, Was wondering whether in Vensim there is an option than when you export a data matrix that it can automatically truncate the data matrix to get rid of zeros? For example if you have a matrix from 1970 to 2050 (you want each year to appear), but on the X axis you might have more than 100 countrie...

Yes 'Vensim_PYEAR' points to a range, not a single cell.
Excel procedure uses DDE.

Re: Bugs with GET XLS SUBSCRIPT?
TOMFID thanks for the reply. I had noted that but at the same time on http://www.vensim.com/documentation/index.html?fn_get_xls_subscript.htm it states "You can substitute named Excel ranges for 'firstcell'. In this case 'lastcell' is ignored." Since I am using a named range in Excel for f...
