Re: about testing Ventity beta release
Sounds good to me. I can't judge really judge on this - gut feeling is the more the better in text form.

Re: about testing Ventity beta release
"Ventity may not ever have a text editor. "
I hope this gets reconsidered. I did have a look at a smaller model and it is a pain to not have access to an overview in text form. Also, in Vensim the text editor is very useful for fast search&replace etc.

Display subscripts values during synthesim
I can only change one subscript of a variable during synthesim. Is there a way to display the current value of the other subscripts at the same time? I know I can embed graphs but is also possible for values? I want to better track of changes being done during the systhesim. (Is there a way to preve...

Additional suggestions
Please increase the thresholds for instance to suppress output display at 256 columns or with optimization runs - it takes far longer to okay away these boxes then for today's computers to generate the views. Option to suppress the "NOTE Payoff (X) realized at multiple parameter values" wh...

Reading data from many files into subscripts
I have dozens of Excel sheets all with the same structure and I need to read the data items therein into variables. All variables are subscripted and each sheet contains the all data items for one subscript. What is the most efficient way to do so? Writing lots of GET XLS DATA for each subscript for...

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Vensim?
Here some quirks in the user interface I keep stumbling over with out any ranking - probably there are ways around some which I have not yet uncovered so feedback would be much appreciated - Selection of nodes not kept highlighted when changing between hand and lock-tool - Right-click on a node shou...

Re: Get subranges?
Thank you for your suggestion. As I would be dealing with 700 x 70 items a matrix does get a bit more complex in Excel. I have attached a solution which uses indexed subscripts - as one cannot calculate (especially references) with subscripts in vensim I use variables for doing so. Any thoughts whic...

Re: Get subranges?
I'd like to map the subranges in column B to the range in A. Trouble is that the number of elements in the subrange categories can change and should adjust itself to the data sets. Any thoughts?

Get subranges?
I can use GET SUBSCRIPTS to read in subscripts but how can I add or map subranges to it if the names of subscripts are not known in advance?

Re: venext - FUNC_DESC
Things did work well but now I changed the model so that I do not have x[Range1] as variable where the results go into but x[Range1,Range2-element1]. Only one element in Range2 shall be changed. From what I see in the debugger, the first execution of the function works well but then the function get...

venext - FUNC_DESC
I have written an external function which calculates a vector and uses input from three vectors. Everything works as expected - e.g. during the first call, everything is looking good. Unfortunately Vensim calls the routine 3 times vector subscripts and then returns the result times 3 times vector su...

Re: Running incremental optimizations
Many thanks, Tom, this is very helpful.
The seed=0 might be made more explicit in the documentation - at least I never figured that one.

Re: Running incremental optimizations
Thanks - will do. Alas, it would be nice if there were a condition which would make Vensim always use a different seed when beginning an optimization. So I have to edit the voc file. The underlying reason for this request is that I cannot provide Vensim with a time limit for the calibration so I wan...

Running incremental optimizations
I want to run sequential optimizations while monitoring the progress. E.g. run the optimizer n times, evaluate the best solution and if not good enough let the optimizer run another n times. I have come up with this: SIMULATE>RUNNAME|opt do MENU>RUN_OPTIMZE Analyse the opt.out file: if ok -> exit el...

Re: LOADMODEL does not work from Excel
No, I do not have a vendll32.dll in any of those directories. I did a search on C: and I have the dll in C:\Users\'Username'\Vensim\dll C:\Users\'Username'\Appdata\local\Vensim C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and in the directory the Excel file and the model are located. All dlls have the same length and save d...

LOADMODEL does not work from Excel
Hello, I am trying to run a Vensim model from Excel through the DLL-interface. To test things I have changed the example code in vendll.xls so that Excel and Vensim work in the directory in which both Excel and Vensim are located. Sub Get_Vensim_Info() Dim buf As String * 512 Dim MyPath As String My...
