Hi Giovanni, Hi JJ, I have lived and worked in an environment (BMW Plant Leipzig) where the plant manager has been a strong promoter of SD. However within the middle-part of the organization you always deal with the kind of managers who -at first sight- resist the new method. Here lies the chance to...

Manual in HTML
Hello Bob,
Thanks for having made the Mac-version available also for MacOSC:-)
Downloading the HTML file of the manual (to embedd in the application itself) doesn't work.
Any trick on that to do?
Best, Ralf

Hi JJ, Thanks for clarifying on perceived reality. Keeping authentic as a consultant when working with a client where the client has 50% of the work to do is a challenge. The issue I opened is that SD people (either practitioners working as employees within organizations, students or consultants usi...

Hi JJ, I only deal with real data and event not superficial theories. Probably my recent postings sounded somewhat way ahead of what today is feasible to do with system dynamics. I see however a constraint, that hinders us to make the use of system dynamics modelling be useful for us (in the learnin...

generic model
Hi Jean-Jaques, hi Randy, A generic model could be -in my view- perfectly developed: by US. Using a specific client problem always leads to confidential problems. And the knowledge will be lost for others. When we start building around a model for a problem, we are all part up, there is a much great...

Hello Frank, JJ is quite right that you first have to express the organization's real business issue it wants to tackle or which is bothering them. I guess it is way too early to build a working SD model - there is lots of work to be done before hand: mostly thinking;-)) Check out "[ Road Maps ...

Hi JJ, hi Lee, hi to all readers, I really like this forum as it offers totally different perspectives and frames on SD issues (that are actually all around us;-)). It really depends, on what we define as SD? Is is just the modeling or perhaps more the process on getting along the path with business...

Hi JJ, I can clearly hear the disappointment about the dynamics in the interpersonal actions concerning the questions on modeling and bringing the field (a garden never only exists of the blossoms one can see, but also the fertile underground, the seeds, water, light, warmth one would not appreciate...

Hi JJ, Just by sheere luck I stumbled across the board and saw your posting. Downloading the model, kicked-in the SD learning and inquiry mode in me:-)) Thanks for providing such great work - now it is time to discover our collective learning out of that. How to make the conversation fluid and valua...

File name length restriction?
Hello,
is there a file name length restriction, as I get into trouble saving the models in a rather deep folder structure on my Powerbook?
What is the restricted lenght (if so)? Changes for the future?
Thanks and best regards

Resizing model from 24" screen to 12"
Hello, Does anybody know whether there is a way to fit model to screen (without downsizing the font size!)? Of course a 12" screen of a Powerbook is not much and yet mostly sufficient, only when the font is getting really too small work is a pain. Would be a nice option (resizing with/without f...

Different runs, model saved under new folder
Hello, working with a Vensim version under MacOS Classic I sometimes get strange behavior. So this time (a couple of times in the past actually) I have run different sensitivity runs and saved them via the Save-Symbol besides the RED STOP sign while doing the Synthesim. After that I saved the model ...

IF THEN ELSE - time in the function, but no variable
Hello, I have a general question on the function IF THEN ELSE, when it is compared to a certain stage in the run time. How do you get the time "variable" into the equation properly? It is probably a minor thing, and yet I couldn't find something in the manual. Thanks a lot and best regards...

Lookup function - error message and no clue

Hi John, Just have had a look on your model and would have the following advices: 1. Draw the reference modes for the variables in the model (the past behavior and the wished/feared) 2. Re-(Down-)size the model to the most essential feedbacks! 3. Start all over again (building up the model slowly) -...
