Ah, it's so simple when you know how (or, when you've read the documentation carefully enough!).
Many thanks,
Phill

Variables in text and sketch views
Hello, I have a model that has a large number of 'Views' in sketch mode. I think, some time ago, I must have deleted a view, without removing the variables on it first. Now, when I want to add those variables to a new 'view', I receive an error, saying that the variable already exists. This is quite...

Re: Passing data between models
Thanks again for the advice. I can probably handle those potential problems in the web interface, by not allowing model B to run until model A is finished and, as you suggest, by using pre and post scripts.

Re: Passing data between models
Thank you for the advice, Tom. The two models will be running in classrooms and I really don't want the lecturers to have to perform any data management when switching from the first model to the second. Both models will run on a website, using the Vensim DLL on a server, so I think I can use the DL...

Passing data between models
Hello, I'd appreciate some advice on how best to pass data between Vensim models. I have one model of a production process that ends with quantities of items in stock, their cost prices and so on. A second model will take the closing stock and price values from the first as its parameters for a sale...

Re: Crashes frequently on Windows 10
Thank you, but it seems to be the program, not a particular model, that is the problem here. This happens with any model if I copy a section of code, then try to paste it into another view with the paste settings shown in this image (the prefix 'Prem' is just an example, it happens with any prefix)....

Re: Crashes frequently on Windows 10
Just in case it's linked, I'll add my question to this thread. When I try to copy a section of a model and paste it into another view, even though I've been careful to set a prefix for any duplicated variables, I occasionally get a 'Vensim program error', saying 'Repeated in Onesort' and the program...

Re: Games in Ventity?
Both, but primarily the first. We've built games in Vensim to demonstrate the effects of different revenue management decisions for a hotel business and for menu planning for a restaurant, then a larger simulation for tourism destination planning, which is more of a tool to aid decision-making, rath...

Re: Text mode problem
In the cases where I have these problems, I am indeed using GET XLS with Office 365. I'll try using GET DIRECT instead and see if that changes things.
Thanks

Re: Text mode problem
Strange that you should ask about Dropbox/One Drive/Google Drive though! I use a Windows 10 computer for Vensim and can't run any MDL file with external data sources if I save it to One Drive. In fact, I can't even run them if saved directly to a synchronised folder on my local drive and I have to g...

Re: Games in Ventity?
I'd just like to second this!! I use Vensim extensively for 'game' simulations and would love to see the game variable option in Ventity (plus a Unix DLL?).

Re: Subscripts and flows
Thank you very much indeed. I see the part I was missing is to sum the subscripted outflow in the unsubscripted warehouse stock, Incoming Stock - sum ( Stockflow[Destinations!] ) Originally, I had that as equivalent to 'Incoming Stock - Stockflow[Destinations]' and that gave rise to the 'subscript o...

Subscripts and flows
Hello, I'm trying to do something I thought would be very simple and I'm ashamed to say I'm going around in circles! In the attached simple model, I have a stock representing a warehouse that receives imported goods. Those goods are then transferred to nearby warehouses for shipment to specific geog...

Re: Using different time frames in an on line model
Thank you very much for your answer. Running three separate models is my 'Plan B', but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a better solution.

Using different time frames in an on line model
Hello, I want to run a Vensim model with Game variables on line using the Vensim DLL. The model is a service delivery problem and involves a planning phase, running in monthly time steps, a logistics phase, in weekly time steps and a delivery phase, in hourly time steps. The time step is not an acce...

Re: Invalid file type error
Your tip worked, thank you! I removed the model folders from the Onedrive sync list and rebooted the computer. Now the files save without that error. It never occurred to me that that might be the problem, as I don't save model files directly to Onedrive.

I'll try removing the model folders from the Onedrive synchronisation and see if that helps. Thanks

Re: Invalid file type error
I'm running Onedrive, but I'm saving to the local drive. I only ever use the local drive for Vensim because the models don't load exogenous data files correctly if I run them from Onedrive folders.

Invalid file type error
Hello, I am using DSS 7.2 Double Precision and, since the recent upgrade, I have been frequently receiving 'Stop from Vensim' errors on saving, with an 'Invalid file type' message. If I open a new model and save, everything is fine. But if I try later to 'Save as' into a different folder (which i do...

Odd panel behaviour in Vensim
Not really Vensim help, more a computer display problem, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has come across this and, if so, what the cure was! Vensim DSS Double Precision 7.2 is running on my Windows 10 Dell desktop. It seems to work without any problems, except when I open an 'Equations'...

Re: Matching results in time
Thank you both for taking the time to reply, you have been very helpful and certainly helped me to improve my modelling skills! I see now that my example was not 'clean' and I shouldn't try to cram the IF, THEN, ELSE statement into the stock but, instead, take the values of the accumulating stock as...

Re: Matching results in time
Yes, the maximum stock is effectively 125, but can 'overstock' to 135, then needs to be corrected at the last time step. But why are incoming bookings not the flow to the bookings total?

Re: Matching results in time
Thank you for your answer Tom. I tried it, but it isn't just a question of display, as I actually need a slightly different formula on the last time step to the previous ones and I'm trying to avoid nested 'IF, THEN, ELSE' statements. I need the stock to increase to an 'over inventory' level (if the...
