Opening external programmes such as powerpoint

Post by drees »

Hi

I've been trying to find a way of opening powerpoint from within Sable so I can include some instructional material related to the model within the package. I've seen it in one of your downloadable demos but haven't been able to work out how to do it. I tried the URL command which works fine for linking to web material but it didn't work for the file on my computer.

If you could let me know how it is done I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks

I'm really sorry David, I completely missed this one.

On a button, create a "Process" command. You should be able to just enter the filename of the powerpoint file and it should launch (Sable reads the file extension (ppt) and searches the registry for the application that is used to launch it).

If the powerpoint file is in the MODEL directory, you will need to enter
\MODEL\powerpoint.ppt

If it's in the project directory, just use
powerpoint.ppt

And if in the "COMMON" directory, add
\COMMON\powerpoint.ppt

Let me know how you get on (and sorry again for the delay).

Tony.

Thanks again Tony. Don't fret about the delay - nobody's perfect and your ongoing responses to my queries over the last 18 months have been fantastic. They have saved me hours of work trying to work things out - and each reply has helped me get better at understanding what Sable can do.

Thanks again for your help and have a great Christmas

Thanks David. It's just not like me to miss something for so long.

Yep - everything works fine Tony. I now have a Sable 'front-end' that has a number of models and supporting material in pdf, doc and ppt formats as well as links to websites. The more I use Sable the more ideas I get about how to use it and your willingness to respond to my ongoing questions has made learning and developing such material so much easier.

Thanks again

David

ps. no doubt I'll keep having questions.
