"Tragedy of the commons" vs. "Prisoner's

Post by addor »

There is a link between Senge's archetype "tragedy of the commons" and the prisoner's dilemma but I've never seen any explicit translation. In the "tragedy of the commons" there is an arrow from "gain per individual" to "A's gain" as well as from "A's Activity" to "A's gain". There is also an arrow from "A's Activity" to "Total Activity". What does this mean in the Prisoner's dilemma? "A's Activity" is the decision for one of the two alternative strategies. "A's gain" depends only from the combination of A's and B's decision. This combination could be what Senge calls "Total Activity". So I don't understand the arrow between "A's Activity" and "A's gain". There is no direct dependence of "A's gain" by "A's activity".
