CLD vs stock and flow

Post by Hossein »

Dear Tom, Administrator,

I have read some articles aboput SD that their casual loop diagram is totally different from their stock and flow diagram! In casual loop they tried to draw a general descriptive relation between variables while in stock and flow, those variables are not mostly defined any more! I just want to know is this type of simulation would be accepted?

It's up to you if you use stock/flow or CLD. I prefer to use CLD as I find it quicker to develop that way.

A causal loop diagram is generally quite underspecified, i.e. it doesn't contain enough information to actually simulate. I often use CLDs for presentation and conceptualization, but I don't recall ever building a model as a CLD.
