Vension version for external functions

Post by WayneZhou2009 »

Hi everyone,

For external functions such as COHORT CONTROL, is Vensim DSS the only version that can make use of them? Can Vensim Pro use external functions?

Thanks.

That's a DSS feature.

You may find that Ventity is a better choice for cohort work. See http://www.systemdynamics.org/conferenc ... /P1363.pdf and http://www.systemdynamics.org/conferenc ... /S1363.zip

Hi Tomfid, thanks a lot for quick reply. But cohort related items are only part of my model, so I have to use Vensim. In that case, if I still want to use COHORT CONTROL, will upgrading from Vensim Pro to Vensim DSS be the only option? Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, what's do you need that isn't in Ventity?

You could potentially use SHIFT IF TRUE or another approach to cohorts, if they aren't central to the model.

Well, it is simply because the cohorts are just a small part of my model and I am reluctant to make any changes to the other parts. That being said, to be honest I know nothing about Ventity and have not got time to explore it. Just a general question please - would it be possible to "import" a Vensim model to Ventity directly? Thanks.

Import capability is on the road map, but usually you'll want to rebuild it anyway, to take advantage of new Ventity architecture features.

Hi
is there any PLE for Ventity or the only way is to use a 60 days trial?
All the best.

No, there is no PLE version of Ventity (but just like Vensim PLE, it is free for educational use at the moment).

Ok, I trust you but, after requesting a download, I got an e-mail of a different flavour where I read, after the download link and among other things:
"You must connect with the internet to validate the license within 7 days of the installation.

This evaluation license will expire 60 days after initial use. At that point, you may purchase
a subscription (you can do this by clicking Help in the application and selecting License Manager)."

You can indeed apply for a free academic license, which will be granted as long as you meet the criteria.
