DLL: "This limited time copy has expired"

Post by steipatr »

Hi all,

I am trying to use the Vensim DLL to connect to 32bit Python (in Anaconda). I installed Vensim DSS Academic 32bit from an .exe downloaded just a few days ago directly from Ventana. I installed as administrator after uninstalling the previous version and running a cleaner program (BleachBit) and manually deleting the dll files in the /System32 and /SysWOW64 folders. But when I try to access my .vpm model through the DLL to run it, I get a message "This limited time copy has expired". My registration code is fresh and valid until September 2018. I have tried multiple times to reinstall Vensim both with and without admin permissions, and I have also tried various orders of opening Anaconda, Vensim, etc. I am a bit stumped to be honest. I also tried applying the recommendations I found through a forum search but they did not appear relevant (activating "academic use" on install) or did not have any effect (running Vensim next to the DLL as administrator).

Does anyone have recommendations on how to resolve this issue?

There is no solution at the moment, it should be fixed in the next release though.

Understood, thank you for the quick reply. This is a blocking issue for me, but alternatives exist - is the next release somewhere around the corner (i.e. 4-5 weeks), or should I start devising a workaround? Your feedback is highly appreciated.

It is coming fairly soon, but I wouldn't guarantee 4-5 weeks, because we're not testing final builds yet.

I'm running into exactly the same issue. Vensim (DSS) runs fine, but when I try to use the DLL it won't run and give the "expired" message.

Patrick (steipatr) and I are both using a renewed license, and since a few fellow students with a "brand new" license are using the DLL without problems, this migth be the problem.

Thank you for the update. I have sent an email to vensim@vensim.com with my license details under the title "DLL: "This limited time copy has expired" - License Info". Please advise if I should send the details to another address as well.
