Cannot run the software after installing

Hello, I just installed Vensim, and the program will not run.

I am on Windows 7. I downloaded the 64-bit version of Vensim.

I got the following error: "api-ms-win-core-version-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer"

I downloaded that file from the internet, and installed it in the Vensim folder, and then got the error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)"

I then downloaded the 32-bit version of Vensim, to see if that would work. I got the same missing DLL error, except this time it was version 1-1-1. I downloaded that as before, and got the same second error as before.

What's going on here, and what's the solution?

I would be extremely cautious about downloading dlls from any source other than Microsoft. It's executable code, and who knows what's in there.

It doesn't look like there is any way to download those files from Microsoft. I deleted the ones I downloaded from that sketchy download site.

I tried running the System File Checker, but it didn't find any missing files.

The weird thing is I also have Ventity, and that runs just fine. I guess it doesn't rely on whatever .dll Vensim does. Since Windows 7 support has ended, I won't have any luck asking Microsoft for help.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and "upgrade" to Windows 10.

I'm sure there will be an update to get the DLL from Microsoft, but no idea which one.

I found this, which links to a Microsoft update. You could try that.

Upgrading to Windows 10 seems to have solved my issue.
