Vensim 9.2.3 x64, Dell XPS13 running Windows 11 ??

Post by bkruger@iafrica.com »

I transferred a Vensim agricultural application (applied annually for 20+ years) to a new Dell XPS13 running Windows 11 and MS Office 365.

The program has been used annually from 2017 on a Dell Inspiron running Windows 10 with MSOffice 2016, without programmatic problems.

The new Dell XPS13 installation show "Value" problems for all simulation results when display in Excel 365 is attempted, as well as nonsensical output for some Theil Program results produced by the Custom graphic/tabular facility.

The identical programs all function correctly when applied on the "old" Win10, MSOffice 2016 Dell Inspiron configuration.

Has anybody else encountered similar problems?

I don't really understand what you are doing here. Are you able to upload the model or some screenshots (or email it to us)?

I thought the content of my query is quite clear:
1 The suite of programs involved have been developed/applied for 20 years, thus no programmatic problem.
2 At present the operational situation involves a new computer operating on a new operational system - Windows 11 and a new upgrade of Vensim.
So my question is VERY simple - if the cause is an interface problem - did any other Vensim 9.2.3 user experience problems with Windows 11 and/or Excel365.

I still am no wiser. I don't understand what the problem is.

You mentioned a value problem, what is that? Is the model failing to read the values from Excel, or failing on a data export? What isn the Theil program and how does that interact with Vensim? What error messages are you getting and are they in Vensim, Excel or the Theil program?

I run a 2 month old Dell Inspiron (and no problems running Vensim at all).

Thanks for the questions - your feedback eliminated the possibility of Vensim 9.2.3/Win 11 interface problems.
Problem is with applying Excel365 to open and manipulate the .rep file of an optimization run, which works smoothly with previous Excel issues.
Excel 365 shows a mysterious 'value' error when calculations with values from an imported .rep file is attempted. The software help function is useless in explaining the value error.
The easy solution at present is to apply an old Excel 2016 program.
Thank you for the feedback

My guess is that Excel is reading numeric fields in as text rather than numbers.

If you can upload the .rep file, I can try it. Other alternative is to select the cells containing values and make sure they are specified as numeric.
