Has anyone used or run SD with cellular automata theory/models. If so could
you please supply me with some references.

Cellular automata
A book by MIT professor Mitchel Resnick called _Turtles, Termites, & Traffic
Jams_ gives a nod to SD (STELLA in particular) as a top-down approach to
the study of complex systems (cellular automata included). Dr. Resnick,
whose homepage is located at http://mres.www.media.mit.edu/people/mres/, is
the author of a progamming language called StarLogo, which can be downloaded
(Mac only, last time I checked, but a PC version was promised for Fall 98)
and comes with some sample models and Adobe Acrobat (*.PDF) files for
reference. An excellent example of some of his work, and that of his
students, is currently on display at The Computer Museum in Boston. The
exhibit, called the Virtual Fishtank, can be seen online at
http://el.www.media.mit.edu/groups/el/P ... /fishtank/.
Id highly reccomend his book to anyone interested in complex systems, and
especially to those interested in the educational aspects of teaching
complexity.
