In the 1970s some people were referring to this type of anaysis as "Structural
Modeling." I participated in an NSF-sponsored research project at Portland
State University that catalogued many such tools. The results were published in
two places:
Linstone, Hayes, Lendaris, Rogers, Wakeland, and Williams, "The Use of
Structural Modeling for Technology Assessment," Technological Forecasting and
Social Change, Vol. 14, No. 4, 1979.
George G. Lendaris, "Structural Modeling--A Tutorial Guide," IEEE Transactions
on Systems, Man, & Cybernetics, Vol. SMC-10, No. 12, December 1980, pp 807-840.
