This is Andy Ford replying with two suggestions regarding the inquiry =
from William Hajime Yonenaga about system dynamics applied to forest =
growth: =20

First, a lot of work has been done by Steve Boyce, formerly of the =
School of Forestry (now the School of the Environment) at Duke. Steve =
is now retired, He wrote up some of his models in a workbook for his =
students at Duke using Dynamo. You can see his main model reconfigured =
in Stella as an exercise in Chapter 5 of my new book on Modeling the =
Environment. (see page 57 of the book, which can be previewed at=20

Second, Chris Enyedy, a MS student in the Environmental Science Program =
at WSU, constructed a Stella model of forest recovery after a major =
change (such as Mt. St. Helens). The model focused on the "below =
ground" nutrients like ammonium and nitrates. The above ground forest =
was comprised of separate stocks for Red Alder, Douglas Fir, Red Cedar =
and Western Hemlock.=20
