Hi
I am exploring the possibility to built a model for the historical
analysis of land-use and land ownership at a regional level (mainly for the
agricultural land with the idea to expand the model in the future to include
agrarian reforms).
I know that the SD literature is plenty of work at urban level,
however, I found very few references of work at a regional level and none of
them related with land-use and land ownership. Any suggestions. Thanks!

One way to do this would be to use the agriculture sector component of =
World3 model and parametrize it for your specific needs. The global model =
parameters and variable relations were mostly derived from regional values, =
and, a fortiori, it (as also the other model components) may be used for =
regional analyses. Reference: Dynamics of growth in a finite world.
Issues such as land development, land fertility, erosion, yield, food =
production, agricultural inputs, etc. are dealt with in this component. You =
can delete, modify, extend parts of the model component to make it more =
"rural" than "urban", though the model was general and addressed =
rural-urban regional problems (at a very aggregate level). You may also =
have to add the issue of ownership, which was not addressed there. It can =
be a good starting point. (I did similar work for North-South analyses - =
essentially parametrizing the World3 model for the specific purpose of =
looking at effects of rapid growth in the South and its effects on the =
North and the world, so what I am suggesting is do-able, though =
nontrivial).
My web site has references
eviews to Dynamics of Growth and other sources.

You might wish to look at my PhD Dissertation at MIT titled: Rural
Development and Income Distribution, The Case of Pakistan.
A generalized version of the landownership/land use model developed in the
dissertation also appears in:

Approach. Foreword by Dennis L. Meadows. Aldershot, England:

CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research) recently held a model
building workshop to develop the first version of FLORES which looks at
land use issues in a forested / agroforest environment. This model is
very detailed and I believe, still under construction, but it does
include components for household decision making about land use.... e.g.
crops to be planted, whether land will be cleared etc.
Check on the CIFOR web site and look for references to "Flores"
Cifor: http://www.cgiar.org/cifor/index.html
The model uses AME (A modeling environment) which can be obtained from
http://meranti.ierm.ed.ac.uk/AME/
