Looking for Simple Water/Atmosphere models

Post by "Dean Bredwell" »

Hi

I am in the process of rewriting a science course here at Lansing Community
College. The course is titled "Living on the Water Planet" and we are hoping
to include system dynamics into the course. I an fairly familiar with system
dynamics, but I am not a expert by any means. I am also familiar with the
Stella modeling software, and have built several simple models using it.
What I am looking for is help finding system models for the water/atmosphere
that are simple enough that elementary students could understand them, or at
best models that we could simplify so that they could understand them. We
use the hydrologic cycle as a basis for the course, looking at water in all
of its forms from groundwater to surface water to water in the atmosphere
(this includes meteorology and climate) and we are hoping to weave systems
dynamic principals throughout the course.

I appreciate any help that the members of this list can give me in finding
information.

Than you in advance,

Looking for Simple Water/Atmosphere models

This is Andy Ford replying to Dean Bredwells inquiry about simple =
models of the hydrologic cycle. Arthur Few from Rice University had =
done some work on Global Climate & Education for NCAR, the National =
Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO. Their "global change =
instructional program" (P.O. Box 3000), Boulder, CO 80307 might have =
copies of some of his short papers. For example, he did an "Exercises =
and Solutions" manual (1992) and there is a booklet on "System Behavior =
and System Modeling." =20
