Simulation at the INFORMS, San Antonio, November 5-8,2000

Post by John Sterman »

Folks,

Here is an opportunity to organize sessions on simulation applications
at
the next INFORMS conference. Since the theme is applications, system
dynamics is quite appropriate.

>CALL FOR SPONSORED SESSIONS
>
>This is an open invitation to INFORMS College on Simulation members to
>organize sponsored sessions for the first INFORMS Annual Conference to be
>held November 5--8, 2000 in San Antonio, Texas.
>
>Sponsored sessions consist of three or four speakers presenting work with a
>related theme. As the theme of the conference is Integrating Theory and
>Application, papers that draw upon the theory of simulation to solve
>applied problems are especially welcome.
>
>As a session chair, you would
>. arrange for up to four speakers on the general theme of the cluster,
>. work with the speakers on submitting abstracts and arranging special
>equipment, if needed, and
>. chair your session at the INFORMS meeting.
>In order to meet planning and program deadlines, it is necessary to
>identify speakers by June 15, 2000, and to have abstracts submitted by July
>15, 2000.
>
>The last duty above generally requires you to introduce speakers and their
>topics, keep track of and enforce time limits (sessions last 90 minutes
>total), and conduct question-and-answer sessions. This list can be
>modified if your session has an unusual format, such as a panel discussion.
> The session chair, if he or she is presenting a paper, usually presents
>the last paper in the session. Overhead projectors and screens will be
>available in each room. Special equipment beyond that can be arranged with
>INFORMS early next fall.
>
>Please note that it is INFORMS policy that all participants, including
>cluster chairs, session chairs, speakers, and non-speakers must register
>for the conference and pay all registration fees. As you invite speakers,
>please make them aware of this policy.
>
>Thank you in advance for your willingness to contribute to this critical
>task. INFORMS has found that the number and quality of the special
>sessions are the most critical variables in determining the success of the
>meeting. I sincerely hope that you will be able to contribute your time
>and expertise in making this meeting an outstanding professional
>experience. I look forward to your reply.
>
>Sincerely,
