Unsolicited attachments

Post by Bob Eberlein »

Hi Everyone,

Recently, someone who posted a message to the list received a response with a
executable attatchment from an unknown person. Wisely, this individual
deleted the attachment.

If you receive an executable attachment from anyone you do not know
simply delete it. Never ever run it. It is very easy to write a
program that erases the contents of your hard disk and virus scanners
will not detect this.

I hope that this is an isolated incident. If you ever receive something
inappropriate in response to messages you post on the list please let me
know. One thing that I know often happens is that autoreplies get sent
saying that someone is out of the office. Those you can simply delete.
