Web based discussion of model development?

I am wondering if, and how, list members have tried to use
the web or plain old e-mail to gain insights for modeling
from groups of "experts" in a particular model building
exercise?
That is, what is the best way to engage a group over
networks/web when these informants are often traveling or
are geographically dispersed? Sending questionnaires or
notes with attached diagrams for comment can work, but I am
wondering if there is any better way whereby group
interaction is more dynamic.... web posting of diagrams with
bulletin board for comments with diagram additions by each
collaborator... for example.
