2001 System Dynamics Conference - Call for Papers
Reminder and New Information

*CONFERENCE INFORMATION AND CALL FOR PAPERS AND SESSIONS Atlanta 2001*

Emory Hotel and Conference Center
Atlanta, Georgia, USA
July 23 - 27, 2001
Hosted by A.T. Kearney, Inc.

The 19th International Conference of the System Dynamics Society will be
held July 23 - 27, 2001. The conference will bring together about 400
participants and practitioners interested in system dynamics and systems
thinking. Presentations by practitioners and world leaders in the field
will cover a wide variety of topics.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The Emory Hotel and Conference Center, on the campus of Emory
University,
is tucked away in a pristine forest, yet only a short distance from the
city of Atlanta, Georgia. The conference site is a charming,
full-service
facility that lends itself to close interaction among participants. The
center offers unique meeting facilities that balance technology and the
natural environment. Amphitheaters and auditoriums feature
state-of-the-art technology for various presentation formats.

Family members are encouraged to stay at the conference center and visit
the many sites of interest around Atlanta. The city center and its
surroundings offer a wide variety of tourist and cultural events,
including theaters, shopping, outdoor activities and restaurants.

Atlanta is easily accessible by air via the Atlanta Hartsfield
International Airport. For your convenience, the conference is
registered
with a local travel agency.

PROGRAM

The program will include various formats. Plenary sessions will feature
presentations on topics of general interest. Parallel sessions will be
organized by theme and will feature the full range of work being done in
the field. Poster sessions will provide an opportunity for participants
to
engage authors directly on subjects of particular interest.

Topics will include:

- applications of system dynamics and systems thinking in business,
economics, engineering, health care and public policy
- policy studies emphasizing the role of feedback
- developments in simulation tools and techniques
- advances in the modeling process and group model building
- system dynamics contributions to theory building in the social and
natural sciences
- complex nonlinear dynamic systems
- contributions to system dynamics teaching materials and methods, in
K-12
education and beyond

The program will also include interactive workshops led by senior people
in the field. Topics in the past have included an introduction to system
dynamics, facilitating the move from systems thinking to systems
simulation, using current software, management flight simulators and
learning laboratories. Also scheduled are panel discussions, special
interest group sessions, student colloquia, events of historical
interest,
vendor displays, exhibits, and demonstrations. System Dynamics Society
meetings and related meetings will round out the conference.

The conference schedule will provide time for relaxed social and
professional interaction.

submit final versions for inclusion in the conference proceedings.

brief description of the session topic, name(s) of the session
organizer(s), and preliminary versions of all papers to be included in
the
session. See guidelines for preliminary version papers above.

Some topics currently being developed include System Dynamics and
Conflict
Management, Economic and Financial Dynamics, Model Analysis, Military
Defense, K-12 Education, System Dynamics in Universities, and Leadership
and Change. For information on these topics, please contact the
appropriate vice-chair (See "Contacts" below).

WORKSHOP PROPOSALS for workshops and other activities require submission
of a brief description (250 words) with estimated space and time
requirements. Please list all authors in the order they should appear.

SUBMISSION FORMAT

The preferred electronic format is .pdf (to ensure the integrity of the
original document); also acceptable is .doc. Please do not set security
on
the document. Include full contact information for at least one author.
The contact person is required to provide the following information on
the
title page of the paper:

Name:
Organization:
Complete Postal Address:
Phone/Fax:
E-mail address:

We prefer to receive contact information in the same form for all
co-authors. If co-author information is not provided, it will not be
included in the printed abstract proceedings or CD-ROM. Preliminary
version materials should be submitted electronically with the subject
line
reading ATLANTA2001: Contact Last Name, First Name. Please include up to
eight keywords that describe your paper.

The submissions will be peer reviewed and acceptances will be sent on
March 15, 2001. All submissions are due to the Program Chair, James H.
Hines, by January 31, 2001. Please submit to the Program Chair at

All
final version materials should be submitted electronically with the
subject line reading: CDMATERIAL.

Final version papers should conform to the same size guidelines as
preliminary version papers. Selected conference papers will be reviewed
for possible publication in the System Dynamics Review. If you do not
want
your paper reviewed for the journal, please notify the Program Chair
when
submitting.

Authors who submit preliminary version abstracts (without papers) for
