ICCS Deadline Reminder / Brief Extension

Post by Yaneer Bar-Yam »

ICCS: International Conference on Complex Systems

Deadline Reminder / Brief Extension

The deadline for ICCS submission of abstracts and
for application for attendance is this weekend (Jan 15).

We are just setting up a meeting of the program committee
so we can accept abstracts somewhat late, but please do not
delay submitting more than a few days (early next week).
We have to organize the abstracts before the meeting.

After this deadline some abstracts may still be accepted
but only at the discretion of session organizers.

for further information see
http://www.necsi.org/

Attached is the call for papers.

All best,
Yaneer

ICCS:International Conference on Complex Systems CFP
--------------------------------------------------
Announcement, Including Call for Papers

Third International Conference
on
COMPLEX SYSTEMS

Nashua, NH
May 21-26, 2000

Host: New England Complex Systems Institute
http://necsi.org
necsi@necsi.org

Conference Chairman: Yaneer Bar-Yam
Executive Committee:
Dan Braha, Helen Harte, Michael Jacobson,
Gottfried Mayer, David Meyer, Ali Minai

This is the third in a series of conferences with two
major aims: first, to investigate those properties or
characteristics that appear to be common to the very
different complex systems now under study; and second,
to encourage cross fertilization among the many disciplines
involved.

PEDAGOGICAL SESSION: The conference will include
pedagogical sessions on Sunday, May. 21 covering
fundamental knowledge in concepts, simulation,
and analysis tools relevant to complex systems.
------------------------------------------------------
ICCS SUBJECT AREAS: UNIFYING THEMES IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS
Sessions will be structured around both themes and systems.

The themes are:

EMERGENCE, STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: substructure, the
relationship of component to collective behavior, the
relationship of internal structure to external influence,
multiscale structure and dynamics.

INFORMATICS: structuring, storing, accessing, and
distributing information describing complex systems.

COMPLEXITY: characterizing the amount of information
necessary to describe complex systems, and the dynamics
of this information.

DYNAMICS: time series analysis and prediction, chaos,
temporal correlations, the time scale of dynamic processes.

SELF-ORGANIZATION: Pattern formation, evolution,
development and adaptation.

The system categories are:

FUNDAMENTALS, PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL SYSTEMS: Spatio-
temporal patterns and chaos, fractals, dynamic scaling,
non-equilibrium processes, hydrodynamics, glasses,
non-linear chemical dynamics, complex fluids,
molecular self-organization, information and
computation in physical systems.

BIO-MOLECULAR & CELLULAR SYSTEMS: protein and DNA
folding, bio-molecular informatics, membranes, cellular
response and communication, genetic regulation, gene-
cytoplasm interactions, development, cellular
differentiation, primitive multicellular organisms,
the immune system.

PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SYSTEMS: Nervous system,
neuro-muscular control, neural network models of brain,
cognition, psychofunction, pattern recognition, learning
and development, man-machine interactions.

ORGANISMS AND POPULATIONS: population biology, ecosystems,
ecology.

HUMAN SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC SYSTEMS: Corporate and social
structures, markets, urban development, the global economy,
the Internet.

ENGINEERED SYSTEMS: Product and product manufacturing,
nano-technology, modified and hybrid biological
organisms, computer based interactive systems, agents,
artificial life, artificial intelligence, and robots
communication networks, traffic systems, emergent control
of distributed systems.

-----------------------------------------------------
Topical sessions for which papers are specifically
solicited based on prior experience:

Dynamics and Patterns in Physical Systems
Biocomplexity
Evolution
Medical Complexity
Networks
Neural Systems
Modeling Social Systems
Management of Human Organizations
Defining Complexity
Engineering complex systems

Other sessions will be formed out of abstracts received
on diverse topics. Individual submissions will be accepted
on their merit.
-----------------------------------------------------
REGISTRATION:

Conference attendance is limited to about
250 participants. Applications will be accepted
on a first-come, first-served basis from
those active or interested in becoming active
in the study of complex systems.

If you are interested in presenting a paper or
simply attending the conference, please apply to

iccs@necsi.org

and provide the following information:

Name
Affiliation
Address
Telephone number
Fax number
E-mail address

AND (if you wish to present a paper)

------------------------------------------------
PROCEEDINGS AND JOURNAL PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES

Authors whose submissions are accepted for presentation
should plan to submit full papers by the Registration
