Limitations of SD!

Post by "Shilp Verma" »

Hello people,

Im Shilp Verma from India. Im doing my Masters in Rural
Management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand
(IRMA) [
http://irma.irm.ernet.in]

Right now, im doing my internship at BANAS Dairy Cooperative
Union. I dont know how many of you are familiar with the concept
of cooperatives. Anyway, my project here involves developing a
Savings/Pension {Old Age Social Security} Scheme for the more
than 140,000 members of the Union.

This is where I got introduced to the fundamentals of System
Dynamics. Im trying to model the scheme using System
Dynamics but am really new to the field. I would like to know
peoples experience with using SD as a decision tool in social
environment where most of the variables are "soft variables".

Im also interested in knowing some of the limitations of SD. From
what Ive heard from people, SD is a very powerful tool but under
certain circumstances and situations only. I would like to know
what are the limitations of the approach Im using and what
precautions I need to take.

Im a novice in this field but have found it very interesting &
massively addictive. Im interested in learning from people who have
been using this for years. Im using Vensim PLE for my modelling
and would be happy to share my work with anyone who is
interested.

Regards....
Shilp Verma
