The announcement below describes 5 open academic posts at the Swiss
Federal institute of Technology in Zürich, sent by my colleague
Hans-Jakob Luethi. One of these is in "systems design." Hans-Jakob
is interested in promoting "dynamical system thinking in the business
environment within ETHZ" and in particular in including system

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) invites
applications for five professorships in the domain of "Management of
Technology-Based Enterprise". These new positions reflect not only
the growing importance of technology for enterprise management, but
also the new managerial challenges, which arise from continual
transformations in these technologies, and from their impact on
society itself.

* Professorship for Technology Management
Area: Issues in the allocation of enterprise resources to
technologies in a rapidly changing environment, and the subsequent
management of these technological resources. This includes issues in
overall R&D and production management, product and process innovation
issues in particular, but also the transfer of such technologies and
innovative practices. A special focus area is the integration into an
integral management concept of the enterprise.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in engineering and,
if possible, in management or economics, to have a record of
independent research in the area, management experience in R&D or
production departments, and strong teaching abilities.

* Professorship for Marketing
Area: The design and development of marketing strategies and
instruments for technology-based business, including product
concepts, product design, services and distribution, and customer
relationship management.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in management and,
if possible, in engineering, to have demonstrated independent
theoretical and practical experience in the area, and strong teaching
abilities.

* Professorship for Information Management
Area: Evaluation and implementation of information and communication
technologies in the value chain at both the internal company and the
inter-enterprise level, systematic and morphological classification
and development of modelling methods, as well as introduction of
comprehensive information systems, up to life cycle evaluation of
these systems.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in engineering and,
if possible, in management or economics, to have a record of
independent research in the area, management experience in
information technology at the company level, and strong teaching
abilities.

* Professorship for Systems Design
Area: Paradigms in recent system theory for the analysis of
structural and dynamic complexity, with regard to the management of
organizations of all kinds in particular, including development of
problem solving and project management methods in systems
engineering. The focus is on the operational impact of the phenomenon
of complexity in technical, but even more so, in socio-technical
systems.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree, a record of
independent research in the area, and strong teaching abilities.

* Professorship / Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) for
Sustainability and Technology
Area: The impact of new technologies and innovations on sustainable
development of technology-based companies and industries. The focus
is on the impact of legal, social, and other aspects of
sustainability, as well as of new work and employment concepts, on
the sustainable development of enterprises.
Applicants are expected to have a university degree in management or
economics as well as in engineering, a record of independent
research, practical experience in private or public organizations,
and strong teaching abilities.
