Global Modeling

Post by Khalid Saeed »

Mr. Yucel,

A paper I wrote some time ago in SDR on Global Trade Relations views
North-South as a dual economics system. I think this is an interesting
framework for analysing a wide range of North-South Issues although I
would say that this is a framework, not the framework for such analyses.
Id would be interested in knowing other perspectives.

Best wishes for your work,

Khalid

GLOBAL MODELING

Post by Ken Simons »

Some classic global modeling works that considered north-south
sustainability, differentiation, and conflict are:
1. Stuart A. Bremer, ed. The Globus Model: Computer Simulation of
Worldwide Political and Economic Developments. Frankfurt: Campus Verlag
and Boulder: Westview Press, 1987
2. Herrera, Amilcar O.; Scolnik, Hugo D.; Chichilnisky, Graciela;
Gallopin, Gilberto C.; Hardoy, Jorge E.; Mosovich, Diana; Oteiza,
Enrique; de Romera Brest, Gilda L.; Suárez, Carlos A. and Talavera,
Luis. Catastrophe or New Society? A Latin American World Model.
Ottawa: International Development Research Centre, 1976.
3. Hughes, Barry B. International Futures: Choices in the Face of
Uncertainty, 3rd ed. Boulder: Westview Press, 1999.
4. Mesarovic and Pestel. Mankind at the Turning Point. New York: E.P.
Dutton, 1974.

Overviews of these models, as well as a very extensive bibliography, are
available on an excellent web page by Peter Brecke:
