WPI new initiative in system dynamics

Post by Khalid Saeed »

Dear Colleagues,

As previously announced by Jim Hines, Im happy to make it official that
arrangements are now complete at WPI to offer a Graduate Certificate in
System Dynamics and an Interdisciplinary Masters degree in Systems
Modeling. The certificate program, beginning with its first offerings on
June 27th, will be initially delivered in a distance format over summer,
fall and spring terms Courses will initially be taught by Professors Jim
Hines, James Lyneis, Bob Eberlein, Kim Warren and Andy Ford. We will soon
add further courses to our offerings taught by our other colleagues.

Eighteen credits of course work will be needed to earn a Graduate
Certificate in System Dynamics. Fifteen of these credits could be applied
to the Interdisciplinary Master Degree in Systems Modeling offered jointly
by the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Social Science and Policy
Studies at WPI (details of both offerings can be found on the Social
Science website http://www.wpi.edu/Academics/Depts/SSPS/Grad/ beginning
Monday, June 2nd). Additional graduate programs designed to compliment the
system dynamics certificate program will be announced soon.

The schedule of courses planned for 2003-2004 is given below:

Summer 2003
(June 27 Sept 19)

SS590A System Dynamics Foundation: Managing Complexity (4 credits) Jim Hines
SS590E Environmental Dynamics (2 credits) Andy Ford
SS590F Project Dynamics (2 credits) James Lyneis

Fall 2003
(Beginning September, 2003)

SS590A System Dynamics Foundation: Managing Complexity (4 credits) Jim Hines
SS590B System Dynamics for Insight (4 credits) Jim Hines
SS590G Strategy Dynamics (2 credits) Kim Warren

Spring 2004
(Beginning January, 2004)

SS590A System Dynamics Foundation: Managing Complexity (4 credits) Jim Hines
SS590C Real World System Dynamics (3 credits) Jim Hines
SS590D Advanced Techniques for System Dynamics (2 credits) Bob Eberlein

The system dynamics Graduate Certificate Program is managed by the
Corporate Education Division of WPI. I should add that the creation of
this program was made possible by the strong support of the Dean of our
Corporate Education Division, John Minasian.

The details of the program are posted at:
