Welcome

PROLAMAT is one of the oldest conferences in the field of manufacturing. Created in 1969 in Roma as the ""PROgraming LAnguages for MAchine Tools"" conference, this triennial event has been a basic meeting for academic and industrial experts in manufacturing. Recently not only the original topics, but all other aspects of the computerized design and production of products and production systems from traditional to virtual ones are covered and dealt with, taking into account also life-cycle issues. PROLAMAT is traditionally sponsored by IFIP. It is an honor for the organizers to welcome again the PROLAMAT conference participants, as it is the first time for PROLAMAT to select Shanghai, China as the venue.

Scope
Price, time and quality are no longer sufficient to gain competitive advantage. It is high value knowledge, which provides the opportunities for adding exclusive value to products and services of an enterprise. Knowledge strategy will be related to innovation, learning and agility. Innovation, or the conversion of advanced research into advanced products, learning, or the acquisition of knowledge from experience, agility, or fast response to the dynamic changes, are the important rules of international industrial competition for the moment. Innovation, learning and agility are key factors for the companies, which must shifts in global markets rapidly and efficiently by delivering new products in the shortest time, with the highest quality and the lowest costs. The successful enterprise of our century will be characterized by an organizational structure that supports thinking process, experience transferring, knowledge discovery and intelligence based on data and information.!
The modern company is not based on the size but on the ability to adapt its running to the changing environment. To answer to these constraints the enterprise must develop a corporate culture that empowers employees at all levels and facilitates constant communication among related groups. It will have a technological infrastructure that fully supports process improvement and integration despite unexpected changes in corporate direction. To keep up with rapid developments in global manufacturing, the enterprise must first look at its organization and culture, and then at its supporting technologies. Too often, companies invest only in technology to compete on the global market and don't give enough attention to the training, the education and the knowledge of their employees. This conference will concentrate on knowledge strategies in Product Life Cycle and will allow to bring together researches and industrialists in order to facilitate the research transfer and also t! he better understanding of industrial problems.

Topics
A 3-day program is planned, including keynote speakers of well-known experts and technical sessions per day for the full-length daily schedule. A half-day is planned for a combined tour and technical visit in Shanghai University.

General Information
Host City
PROLAMAT'2006 will be held from 15-17 June 2006 in Shanghai University, Shanghai, China. Shanghai University is one of the key institutions of higher education in Shanghai directly under the Municipal Government. Shanghai University is the biggest university run by Shanghai Municipality. It has a clear thought guiding her running and takes cultivating socialist builders and successors who are ambitious, moral, well- educated and well-disciplined as her fundamental mission. Shanghai University has wide communication and cooperation with the international scientific community. Shanghai University is located in the Eastern cosmopolitan city - Shanghai, the biggest economic center in China. Not even the Oriental Pearl TV Tower was visible -- its futuristic steel globes (and bright pink trim) lost in the mist off the Huangpu River. We could make out some of the columns of the colonial buildings along the Bund, the riverfront promenade, and here and there an imperial dragon raised its ghostly head. But most of the glass and steel of modern Shanghai disappeared into the clouds. It somehow seemed like a fitting introduction, for the new Shanghai, like the new China, is still a mystery. It's a vibrant, energetic, changing metropolis, not the languid, romantic city of art-deco and opium-den lore. It is a city of the mobile phone, the Internet cafe, the museum with the state-of-the-art audio device (as good, or better, than ones you'd find in New York or London). For every shop that sells jade ornaments there's a shop that sells knits that women could wear!
to the office in Chicago -- Shanghai's residents wear them to the office, too. As in so many Chinese cities, you'll find residents practicing tai chi in the parks, but their focus seems more intense in Shanghai, perhaps because of the bustle and clamor around them. Modernism and traditionalism, communism and capitalism -- all seem to be living comfortably side by side. How it comes together may be a mystery for now, but it's one of the most dazzling the Chinese have come up with.

The Conference will take place in the school guesthouse (New Lehu Building) Address: 99 Shangda Road), situated on the campus of Shanghai University. The campus is near by the city center.
