This year’s theme is ‘SD+’, and is being run in collaboration with the UK
Operational Research Society’s system dynamics study group. The theme means
that we will be looking at the opportunity to connect with other approaches.
Speakers this year are:

* John Morecroft and Stewart Robinson: Comparing SD and DES:
lessons from fisheries
* Colin Eden: Combining Problem Structuring and SD Group Modelling:
experiences and prospects
* Jim Lyneis: Integrating SD Models With Other Tools and Approaches:
Insights from 25 Years of Consulting

Abstracts are now available at http://www.systemdynamics.org.uk/index.php?id=51

Benefits of attending:

* Hear from experts the complementary perspectives provided by system
dynamics and discrete-event simulation [DES]
* Learn about the ways in which related approaches are used to tackle
strategic issues
* … and on the second day explore with colleagues how discrete-event
simulation complements system dynamics

As in previous years, it will be a great pleasure to share in the award of the
Chapter’s student prize for an outstanding piece of system dynamics work.
Following this award on the morning of the second day will be a PhD colloquium
at which students will have a chance to share their work. For more information
on this please contact Mike Quigley m.quigley@salford.ac.uk

In addition, we will be delighted to be awarding a new prize, sponsored by
transport planning consultancy Steer Davies Gleave, for outstanding professional
work that has promoted the use of System Dynamics to address real and significant
problems of public interest.

Lastly, if you have benefited from the society, please do consider putting
yourself forward for the committee - or just as an occasional helper. The group
is run on an entirely voluntary basis and any contribution would be welcome. Reply
to this email in the first instance if you are able to help.

We look forward to seeing you at the gathering!

Susan Howick (President) and all the Policy Council.
