******************************************************************
The InterSymp-2008 20th International Conference on Systems Research,
Informatics and Cybernetics will be held from July 24th to 30th, 2008,
in Baden-Baden, Germany.
******************************************************************
Announces:
Special Focus Symposium on
Engineering & Management of IT-based Organizational Systems:
A Systems Approach
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Focus of the Symposium:
To collect, discuss and disseminate scientific knowledge and
professionals’ experience of high-quality level and relevance, obtained
with rigor from theoretical or empirical studies, that have been conducted
to explore, describe-compare, predict, explain, control, design or
evaluate IT-based Organizational Systems (ITOS ), by using the Systems
Approach. Due to the inherent complexity of current ITOS realization,
papers with an interdisciplinary scope are of special interest (drawing
from Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Complex Sciences, Software
Engineering, Computer Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Management
Sciences and/or Operations Research), as well as focused on the support
for engineering and managerial decision-making process (intelligence,
design, choice, implementation, and learning).

Types of Contributions:

-Theoretical-based papers on philosophical issues of the systems approach
for the engineering and management of CITOS.
-Interdisciplinary-based papers on systems research methodological issues,
such as Conceptual, Formal Mathematical, Systems Simulation (Discrete,
Multi-Agent or Hybrid), System Dynamics, Soft Systems, Action Research,
Critical or Multi-Method Research (combination of several approaches
including Survey, Case Study and Grounded Theory) for the engineering and
management of CITOS.
-Empirical-based papers on a full or prototype CITOS where a Systems
Approach was relevant for its Conceptualization, Design, Development,
Deployment or/and Evaluation.

Types of IT-based Organizational Systems:

-Transactional Processing Systems
-Office Automation Systems
-Management Information Systems
-Decision-making Support Systems (EIS, DSS, KBS, DW)
-Simulation-based Systems
-Intelligent Systems
-Knowledge Management Systems
-Business Process & Workflow Management Systems
-Enterprise Systems
-Command, Control & Communications Systems (C3)
-C4ISR systems

Engineering and Management Topics (not limited to):

-Engineering categories of topics:
-Requirements engineering approaches, methods, techniques or tools
-Design philosophies, methods, techniques or tools
-Architectural Design (philosophies, methods, techniques or tools)
-Building, Testing, Integration and Disposal approaches, methods,
techniques or tools
-Standards and models of engineering and technical processes

Management categories of topics:
-Lifecycle system management
-Financial management
-Engineering management
-Value-oriented management
-Service-oriented management
-Quality-oriented management
-Project Management
-Enterprise-oriented Management
-Standards and models of enterprise, managerial and support processes
---------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS:

Papers from ended and in-progress research on the aforementioned types of
contributions are invited to be submitted. An extended abstract of 500
words as a maximum must be submitted for initial evaluation with the
following content: (i) Paper’s data (title, researcher(ers) and
affiliation(s)), (ii) Research Context (main related work and research
relevance), (iii) Research Description (objective, main inquiry, general
description of research development and Systems Approach used), (iv)
Contributions (main findings achieved or expected to be generated and main
conclusions and limitations), and (v) Main References.

Abstracts, as well as the full papers, must be submitted electronically by
e-mail as attachment in Word format to:

Professor Miroljub Kljajic (miroljub.kljajic@fov.uni-mb.si), and
Assoc. Professor Manuel Mora (mmora@securenym.net), as well as to
Professor George Lasker (lasker@uwindsor.ca).

Deadlines

Abstract submission (mandatory): February 29, 2008
Notification of abstract acceptance: March 10, 2006
Full papers due: April 15, 2008
Definitive notification of acceptance: May 5, 2008
Camera-ready paper submission due: May, 9, 2008

Review Process and Conference Proceedings:

All submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed and judged based on their
quality, rigor and relevance for the disciplines addressed and the Systems
Approach. Abstracts accepted will be encouraged to be fully developed in 5
single-spaces typed pages prepared according to the “Instruction to
Authors” (displayed at the website http://www.iias.edu) for the definitive
peer-based review process. The accepted and registered papers will be
published in the Conference Proceedings.

IMPORTANT NOTE.

An extended version of the four best papers will be published (two by
issue) -under the conditional continuity of the quality, rigor and
relevance required- in an important worldwide journal devoted to the
development of the Systems Approach: International Journal of Information
Technologies and Systems Approach (IJITSA):
http://www.igi-pub.com/ijitsa.
