Hello Everyone,
I am posting this message for a local university student who came to me for
help in his SD modeling plans as described below.
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions to help him get started.
Sincerely,

software market
Hello,
I am currently working on my thesis as part of masters program.
I plan to use Systems Dynamics (SD) to study network effects in the
wireless PDA software market.
Wondering if anyone can suggest an existing SD model that I may be able
to adapt or extend to study the network effects in the wireless PDA
software market. Included below are the details of my research for
reference.
Definition:
A network effect is a characteristic that causes a good or service
to have a value to a potential customer which depends on the number
of other customers who own the good or are users of the service.
In other words, the number of prior adopters is a term in the value
available to the next adopter.
(source:: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_effects)
Background:
In the context of my research, some of the examples of positive
network effect in the wireless PDA software market are:
- Leverage existing infrastructure and applications
- Support for applications/ file formats with huge user base
(e.g., Support for Microsoft Exchange/ Lotus notes email systems,
PDF document format)
Research question:
How do stakeholders use network effects in enterprise wireless PDA
software market?
Deliverables of my research:
- Systems dynamics model to study network effects in wireless PDA
software market
- Identification, analysis and strategic implications of network
effects
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Kalyan
