ANNOUNCE Open Dialect Learning Environment

Post by ""Billy Schoenberg"" <wasbrid »

Hello Everyone,

I am a Masters Student at the University of Bergen. I have been a lurker here
for approx 6 months.

My Masters thesis is to create a tool that makes Interactive Learning
Environments, with a strong emphasis on revealing structure, behavior AND their
relationships. I have created a free and open source tool called Open Dialect
(available at http://dialect.openmodeling.net) which is at the moment capable of
producing interactive learning environments for Vensim models. These learning
environments are right now web only and can be either single user or multiuser.
In the near future < 3 weeks these same ILEs will be accessible as download-able
programs capable of running without the internet. These ILEs are visible in any
of the major browsers as long as Adobe Flash is installed. I have also created
a
simple step by step tutorial for creating a copy of this ILE
(www.t21northamerica.com/PolicyResistance.html) which is available at the above
link. Open Dialect can be installed on Windows, Linux and OS X, but at the
moment I have only created a Windows installer, if you want Linux or OS X
installation help please make a ticket at http://dialect.openmodeling.net.

I will also be attending the System Dynamics conference in Athens this summer
where I have a poster presentation and will be offering a Thursday workshop
session with my friend Bobby Powers as we demonstrate the use of Open Dialect
and
OpenSim (an Open Source collaborative modeling environment). I hope this tool
can be helpful for you and if you have any comments or suggestions about what I
should or should not be doing please feel free to tell me as I need as much help
and support as I can get! Obviously this is the first cut of a tool that I plan
on supporting for the next few years.

Thanks,

Billy Schoenberg
