Dear SD community,

I am a new young member of SD community, with immense faith that in this
globalised environment, SD has the potential to offer great insights. I am
working on a cardiac projects

Cardiac defibrillators implantation.

Is any body aware of any SD model developed for analysing the impact of adoption
of cardiac defibrillators. Please advise.

Thanks & kind Regards,

Kirandeep Chahal

Dear Kirandeep,

A few years ago, Jack Homer and I, working with colleagues in Whatcom County,
Washington, developed a model of the prevalence and burden of Heart Failure at
the community level. (The paper describing the work is at
http://www.systemdynamics.org/conferenc ... RS/239.pdf ). While
the work didn't focus on implantable defibrillators per se, on P.29 of the paper
we contrast the financial impact of chronic illness management and prevention
programs for Heart Failure with that reported for the defibrillators. These
comprehensive care programs appear to have a much more favorable impact on Heart
Failure than defibrillators, in terms of cost per life-year saved.

Kirandeep,

My doctoral thesis at MIT presents a general theory of the emergence (adoption,
modification, evolving use) of a new medical technology, including detailed
application to cardiac pacemakers and the antibiotic drug clindamycin, as well
as
policy analysis.

technologies. PhD Thesis, MIT Sloan School of Management (649 pages).

technologies. Technological Forecasting and Social Change, 31(3): 197-218.

decision-making for emerging medical technologies. R&D Management, 14(3):
