Dr David Lane (Operational Research Group and Managerial Economics & Stra=

Modelling=92, after students on the Masters degrees in both Operational R=
esearch
and Decision Sciences nominated him for one of only five awards given in =
2007-8
by LSE=92s Students=92 Union.

The Students=92 Union instituted the LSE Teaching Excellence Awards in or=
der to
raise the profile of teaching across the School, and to acknowledge the e=
ffort
and enthusiasm invested in teaching and the support of learning by academ=
ic
staff. Up to five awards are made each year. The initial selection of tea=
chers
is
undertaken by student nomination, coordinated through the Students=92 Uni=
on. The
final selection is undertaken by the Pro Director responsible for Teachin=
g,
Learning and Student Affairs.

The awards aim to acknowledge any member of LSE staff involved in teachin=
g who
has inspired students, helped them get to grips with complex or challengi=
ng
ideas, encouraged their learning, changed their view on the world or help=
ed them
to ""understand the cause of things"" better.
