CALL FOR PROPOSALS ON NEW CONFERENCE THREADS (due NOV 15)
2009 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society
Albuquerque, New Mexico July 26 - 30, 2009

http://www.systemdynamics.org/conferenc ... hreads.pdf
(Printer friendly version)

NEW THREADS - - The Organizing Committee of the Albuquerque Conference is
seeking proposals for new conference threads. We are particularly
interested in proposals dealing with:
-- Climate change/energy transition
-- Infrastructure resilience
-- Emergency preparedness/response
-- Challenges of terrorism/insurgencies

The proposal may call for the formation of a permanent thread or a
temporary thread designed expressly for the 2009 conference. The proposal
should assign a short name to the thread; explain its usefulness; and
include an estimated number of submissions. (A good proposal would
stimulate at least five submissions to the 2009 conference.) The proposal
should include individuals (and their Email addresses) who are willing to
speak on behalf of the new thread. Most importantly, the proposal should
include nominations for co-chairs, along with their consent to serve. THE
PROPOSALS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 15, 2008, and shall be addressed to the
Program Chairs: programchair@systemdynamics.org

The Program Chairs will review the submissions and may follow-up by
contacting individuals who are calling for the new thread.

THE 2009 PROGRAM - - The call for new threads is issued to expand the list
of threads to keep pace with the expanding range of applications of system
dynamics. We also aim to stimulate the submission of papers with high
appeal to the host organizations, their clients and sponsoring agencies
for the 2009 conference. New threads could help to attract many first-time
participants in 2009, particularly from government and business
organizations. The new participants are likely to attend as listeners and
learners, not necessarily as presenters. Their active involvement is an
important goal for the conference. Therefore, the technical staffs of the
national laboratories and consultants are especially encouraged to submit
proposals.

EXISTING THREADS - - We also encourage proposals for the formation of new
threads to accommodate work that does not fit well within the existing
threads. Most of the existing threads are staffed with co-chairs who
commit to serve about four years. The existing threads can receive up to
40 papers each year, and the co-chairs deal with the sharing the
work-load. The thread chairs come into the review/program process after
the volunteer reviewers have completed their reviews of each submission.
The thread co-chairs make recommendations for potential plenary papers and
other suggestions for the final program. They are also asked to provide
feedback to referees on how to write constructive reviews.

The existing threads include:
-- Business applications
-- Complexity/agent-based/nonlinear
-- Economic dynamics
-- Education
-- Energy and resources
-- Environment and ecology
-- Health
-- Information science
-- Methodology: Alternative Approaches
-- Methodology in System Dynamics
-- Military applications
-- Operations management & supply chains
-- Organizational dynamics
-- Psychology/social dynamics
-- Public policy
-- Qualitative system dynamics
-- Security
-- Strategy

Proposals that carve out an important part of one of these broad threads
(i.e., business applications) are welcome. Proposals that form bridges
across existing threads are also welcome.
