Hello,
This year I am offering a subject called "Strategic Issues in Engineering"
to 4th year undergraduate engineering students. The subject teaches in three
major areas- technological forecasting and assessment, policy design, and
productivity improvement. As part of assessment students are required to
conduct the following Major Assignment:
Major Assignment - Industry Case Study
2000+ words
Marks - 20%
Due - 24th October
Work in groups of 3 to 4
Present group report and group presentation
This exercise tests the level of students understanding of the concepts
given in technological forecasting & assessment, policy design, and
productivity improvement. It is expected that students should be able to
synthesise the concepts of the three areas while observing and analysing a
real life case situation.
The exercise requires students (1) to make at least one visit to an
organisation and (2) to carry out an extensive search of information already
available on the organisation. Identify strategic issues which are of
concern to the organisation. Select only one issue for the purpose of this
study. Get the views of senior management on the issue through direct
interview. The report should discuss the following items:
1. the organisation and the major concerns.
2. The information required for the study and the sources.
3. Suggest a framework to study the issue.
4. Comment on the likely outcome of the study and recommendations.
I have an intention to expose my students via Internet to students/groups of
other universities/ organisations. Through e-mails or other means students
can exchange ideas on various topics of this subject or major assignment. I
would be interested to hear from anybody. Please note our semester starts 22
July and ends 15 November.
Thank you for your time.
