CALL FOR PAPERS
15th INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM DYNAMICS CONFERENCE
August 19-22, 1997
Istanbul, Turkey

Bogazici University Istanbul, Turkey


INTRODUCTION

The fifteenth International System Dynamics Conference will be held on
August 19-22 1997, in Istanbul, Turkey. It will be hosted by Bogazici
University, the department of Industrial Engineering. It will be supported
by System Dynamics Society and several other private and state
organizations. The conference site will consist of two places: Bogazici
University and the new Kabatas Culture Center in Istanbul. The conference
is expected to attract over 200 experts from around the world,
specializing in system dynamics, systems thinking and other systemic
methodologies.


CONFERENCE SITE

Istanbul is one of the largest cities of Europe and a
major center of scientific, cultural and artistic activities. The city is
well known for its historic and natural treasures. Several social
activities will be organized during the conference, such as sightseeing
boat trip, city tour, shopping, and longer post/pre-conference tours of
Turkey. The conference will be held in two places: Bogazici University and
Kabatas Culture Center. Bogazici University is one of the top universities
of Turkey, also known its beautiful campus, overlooking Bosphorus. The
opening session and the welcome reception will take place on the campus of
the university. All other plenary and parallel sessions and meetings will
take place in Kabatas Culture Center. The center is constructed over the
remains of an old palace, located on Bosphorus, in a very popular
historic/cultural district. There are several hotels within walking
distance from the center, offering different levels of luxury and rates.
Every effort will be made to keep the daily expenses of the participants
as low as reasonably possible. Transportation will be provided in-between
the university the conference center and some selected districts of
Istanbul.


PROGRAM

The program will consist of plenary sessions and many parallel
sessions. The main theme of the conference is Systems Approach to
Learning and Education into the 21st Century. This means that most
plenary sessions and some selected parallel sessions will consist of
high-quality presentations that deal with the main theme. But the theme of
the conference must NOT be interpreted in a restrictive sense. Applied
papers in other areas and papers that deal with methodological/conceptual
issues are also invited.

I- The main theme of the conference, Systems Approach to Learning and
Education into the 21st Century, include the following sub-topics:
a) Formal aspects of system dynamics education in universities.
b) How system dynamics can be used as a tool in education in general.
c) The implications of systemic methodologies for the future of
education.
d) System dynamics and systems thinking in professional
education/training.
e) System dynamics in high school education
f) Systemic methodologies as learning environments
g) The art and science of modeling for learning

II- In other areas of interest, parallel sessions and some plenary
sessions will cover a wide range of methodological and application papers,
including:
a) Simulation tools and techniques
b) Model analysis and validation
c) Software development
d) Interactive simulation games
e) Complex Non-linear dynamics
f) Conceptual/philosophical issues
g) Public and private sector applications


ABSTRACTS and PAPER

1-page abstracts are due by January 31, 1997. They must be sent to either
of the program co-chairs listed on the back of this brochure. Abstracts
will be peer-reviewed and selected papers will be invited for
presentation in plenary or parallel sessions. Final selection
of the plenary presentations will be based on full papers. Each paper to
be published in the proceedings, is limited to four pages. Extra fees
will be charged for each page above this limit, the absolute maximum being
eight pages. As an alternative, participants will be encouraged to place
longer (electronic) versions of their papers in the virtual proceedings
on the Internet. Details will be mailed with paper acceptance letters.
Participants can also bring long versions of their papers to the
conference, for distribution during their sessions.


DEADLINES and KEY DATES

January 31, 1997: Deadline for abstracts
February 15, 1997: Acceptance letters and registration information mailed=

May 15, 1997 : Deadline for full papers
June 30, 1997 : Deadline for pre-registration (at reduced rates).


EXHIBITS, VENDOR DEMOS

Exhibits and vendor demonstrations will also be held during the
conference. There will be an exhibit section for academicians and other
non-profit organizations and another section for commercial stands.

Can you send me pricing information on the conference = or tell me where
I can get same.

[Hostt Note: Conference pricing for the System Dynamics Conferences
is modest (normally in the US $300-$400 range). I dont think this
years conference fee has been set, but it will be similar. If you
would like to be on the mailing list to receive the registration
info send a message to sd97@boun.edu.tr

The registration forms will be available online
