Hi!
This week Powersim Corporation announced and demonstrated a new SD product
at the PC industry trade show Demo97. The product is called Powersim
Metro and it is for distributing a management flight simulator over the
world wide web. Anyone can point their web browser to a URL that contains
an MFS built in Metro, and then work with the simulator through a java-based
user interface. Metro makes it possible to build "browsable simulators",
and makes it possible to support "just-in-time learning labs".
Demos and more information can be found at http://www.powersim.com/demo97/
Note that the demos require either Netscape Navigator 3.0 or MS Internet
Explorer 3.0. In addition, you must enable java in your browser if you
have not already done so. Finally some firewalls prevent java applets from
an outside source from being loaded.
We will make betas of Metro available to members of the SD community
on request. Betas should be available in March 1997.

Dave,
I just took a quick tour of the Metro demo. My initial reaction is very
positive! I think we can sell this!
Keep up the great work.

Chris, you might want to make it clear that as a Powersim reseller, your
opinion could be slightly biased.

Phil,
You are right! I had intended my response to go only to David, but
inadvertantly sent it back to the list.
My apologies to everyone on the list.
Chris

The idea of realtime SD interaction via the internet is an
interesting idea. It would only appeal to a particular (small?) market
niche though. It will be interesting to observe whether this type of
innovation is enough to get the success to the successful archetype firing
for the SD community generally. I guess Chris would prefer that it would
fire for the Powersim community in particular?!
Cheers
John
