Problem with different time delays

Post by Panichel »

Hi,
I am developing a land-use change model in Vensim.
The problem is that I have land-use conversions with different time delays and so when I estimate the share of each land-conversion type I get a peak resulting form the different time delays that is not consistent. I need to estimate the share of unmanaged land on soybean expansion, ideally at the end of the simulation period, but use this value along the simulation. Please see the attachment with the two figures.
Does anyone knows how to solve this problem ?
Many thanks
Luis

Can you post the model and explain using that? There is not much we can do just from a couple of graphs.

A process that estimates land at the end of the simulation, and then somehow allocates that along the way, is what we call "acausal" - i.e. it implies that current decisions use future information. This isn't possible in reality, so it might be productive to think about what information decision makers (who are responsible for land conversions) are using to guide the process along the way. They may have expectations about the future, but those have to be based on past information.
