Heres an example of a job description for a currently active search for an
SD modeler that Im conducting.
Manager of System Dynamics, Edison International. Responsible for
leading the development and implementation of system dynamics based
approaches for investigating and projecting the behavior of deregulated
markets for electricity and related energy products. Responsible for
project-based application of system dynamics techniques to business problems
in the unregulated generation and marketing sectors of the energy industry
in the U.S., Europe, South America, and the Asia/Pacific region. Position
will report to the corporate director of business development. Work
location is in southern California. Compensation is competitive.
Preferred qualifications include:
* Prior experience applying principles of system dynamics to simulate
and investigate business problems of competitive strategy, market entry and
exit, and the microeconomics of capital-intensive, cyclical industries
* Coursework in system dynamics, microeconomics, operations research,
and (preferably) decision analysis, option valuation theory and application,
econometrics, modeling of stochastic processes
* Knowledge of the energy industry and of the deregulation of the U.S.
and overseas electricity markets
* Superior problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity,
demonstrated initiative
* Demonstrated record of academic and career achievement
* Programming skills including (preferably) C++ and Vensim
* Team-orientation, interpersonal working skills, ability to
communicate with senior management effectively in written and oral form
* Ability to thrive in an unstructured environment; a self-starter
* Consulting, transactional, or M&A experience a plus
