Bug Report: Export of Sensitivity Data not working in latest VENSIM PLE+ version on Mac

Post by aherwix »

Dear Vensim Experts,

I want to report a potential bug in the latest VENSIM PLE+ version (9.2.4) on Mac. I am currently collaborating with a colleague on a research project and we are struggling to export the sensitivity data from our model. When looking at the documentation on how to export sensitivity data (http://www.vensim.com/documentation/ref ... sensi.html), it should be quite easy. We should be able to simply load up the sensitivity data set and then when exporting the data a special export window should pop up. However, this does not work for us. Even when working with a sensitivity data set the standard export dialog appears and only the standard single run data gets exported. This puts us into a big quagmire at the moment because our submission deadline is coming up soon and without sensitivity data export we cannot do a concluding analysis of our simulation experiments.

Do you have any quick workarounds available, show us where we are using VENSIM wrong or fix this bug soon? We basically need to run a t-test on a few variables to compare scenarios. It does not seem like VENSIM PLE+ allows for this type of analysis out of the box because the stats tool is not available. Right now we only get the sensitivity graphs with percentiles. These are nice but it's frustrating to not get at the data itself.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you correct your licence details please? You registered as a PLE user, sensitivity is not available in that version of Vensim.

As I stated in the text, I am collaborating with a colleague who is running the simulations and bought the license but is pretty busy at the moment, which is why I registered here to post this report. I can try to get him to register an account soon and verify this report but this should not change the reporting itself. We may be trying to run the export on Windows as well to see if the bug is there as well and fix our issue for the moment but if there is indeed a bug in the mac version this should most likely be of interest to you regardless?

Please ask the actual user to contact us regarding this, I can help them directly much more efficiently.

To be honest, I don't see how this is the case but I will try to get them to register soon (Time zone differences involved). In the meantime, it would be great if you could try to reproduce / verify the bug on your end. If it's not reproducible we could try to use another machine or do a reinstall.

We need to ensure that Vensim is being used legally which is why we ask for the licence details when users register on the forum or when emailing us for help.

Please ask the actual user to email us directly (with their licence details) and we can help.

I am the collaborator of the original poster. Just writing to confirm that we indeed have this issue when exporting on mac. We are currently trying to export on a Win machine and it seems to work better. So, it seems like we have a workaround for now but having this work on mac as well would be great.

Can you please make sure you are properly licensed to use Vensim. If there are two users, you need two licences.

If you hold shift down when you click Model-Export dataset, it should work ok.

We are working on a small academic research project and using PLE and PLE+ for modelling together and one PLE+ license to run the final sensitivity simulation. This should be covered by the license afaik. However, VENSIM is a useful software so if more projects come up on my end, I will be sure to buy a PLE+ license as well.

We will try out the "shift + click hack", thanks for pointing this out. If this works it may be useful to update the docs accordingly.

Section 1 of the licence details how it can be installed (https://vensim.com/license/). If you both have a single PLE+ licence installed on separate machines (which seems the case as you both are attempting to export), that is not covered.

We only have one machine with PLE+ installed at a time. We did try to export on another machine but this was only an attempt to verify / work around the issue raised in this thread. However, there is good news, the suggestion to use shift + click worked so no need for further experimentation.

One machine/multiple users is a supported use.
You may either: (a) install the Software on a single computer allowing access at a single physical point by a single individual (which may include you and other individual users) at any one time or (b) install it only for your own use on one to three computers providing that only one installation is in use at any one time and all installations are used exclusively by you or (c) install the Software on a single virtual machine or physical computer that provides a service or conducts batch computations in response to tasks or queries originating within your own organization.
