Start new models failed
Start new models failed
I download vensim 10.0.0 on macOS12.6.7.
Cannot create a new model, cause the button-functions (Stock, flow etc.) are inactive (see next picture). Why?
Best wishes

Re: Start new models failed
I can't immediately think of a reason. My OS versions (13.1 and 10.something) bracket yours, and PLE works fine on both.
The only thing I can think of is an expired evaluation license, but normally the application declines to start rather than freezing. Solution would be to reinstall using the education license (if applicable).
Do the menus work? Can you close the model and use File>New to create a new one?

Permissions issue? Did you click yes when Vensim started and asked if it could access documents?

Re: Start new models failed
The menus are usually disabled if you open a packaged model. Could that be the case?

No. I opened a new model and nothing happens.
I download Vensim PLE as educatinal Version with Serial No. 9999
Whats happen with the Unlock-code?
Re: Start new models failed
Hi,
once more, I repeat the download PLE for academic use. So far so good.
Opening the Program shows automatically a model from tom from 2011 (predators-prey-model).
Clicking a new model and click in OK of the settings, the model field in gray turn into white and
fx, Stock, flow and other in the headline are unable to click.
So, what is the problem?
Thanks Udo Küppers

Re: Start new models failed
Not having seen this before, I'm pretty stumped.
When the pred-prey model opened, could you interact with it?
"PL9999" is the standard s/n for all academic PLE, so unfortunately that doesn't provide a clue.
Long shot, but anything unusual about the environment? (multiple monitors, remote access, virtualization, ...)

After a new PLE download, instalation without any problems and clicking on the PLE-program, the white field with the
start window (Serial No., Name etc.) appears, but there is no box or anything else to click YES!?
I could start directly with creating a model.
But after a while, Vensim-windows after click the Save button appear: Stop unable to open "test.mdl for output / unable to make automated backup...
Could this description help to run PLE?[/quote]

Re: Start new models failed
Hi Tom,
your "Building Simple Vensim Model" uses a former model version, whose tools are not identical with those of vension 10.0!
Example: you use an "I/O object" tool for input-output-object-settings which is not in vensin 10.0 visible. Where is the adequate tool?
Thanks Udo

Re: Start new models failed
We split it into two ... won't update the video until later, because there's a big update for these tools in the pipeline.

Re: Start new models failed
Hi Tom,
yes, it works!
Sorry for my questions.
Anyway, Vensim ist for me yet a miracle.
If I construct your simple model or a model from vensim user manual days ago, everything works.
But if I click now on new model, place stock, flow tool etc. on the white background and try to save as ...,
Vensim-windows appears with the texts:
- failed to save /name.mdl
- unable to open /name.mdl for output
- unable to make automated backup to /name.4vmfx.
Thanks Udo

Re: Start new models failed
This definitely seems like a permissions issue. You cannot save to the root folder on a Mac, make sure you save to your documents folder.
