behavior of comment boxes and circles when moved

Post by rdudley »

I like to use "comment boxes" or circles to highlight parts of my models, For example to highlight parts of a model by enclosing them in a box with a label at the bottom (see example).

I have found, after updating Vensim? to 10.2.0, that sometimes moving a comment box also moves all the elements within it, and sometimes moving that comment box does not move those elements. Also I can no longer change the thickness of the line surrounding the box or circle.

Just curious as to the behavior of elements enclosed in a comments box and if/how that can be changed. Also how to change line thickness.

If you select something inside the box, it should move only that. But if you click the background of the comment box and move it, it will move the contents as well. Does that make sense? Try moving just "recollection of new cases" it should move ok.

I'll make a change so that the comment box can be moved without moving it's contents ASAP. It will most likely be holding a key down (such as ALT) when moving.

I'll also check if the surrounding shape can have a thicker line. There has been no way to set this for some time, so I'll need to check that it can be done.

Having the thicker lines is nice for emphasis. This option is available for normal model variables.

Also, Has the ability to move model components "to the back" and "to the front" been lost? :( That is sometimes handy for clarity. Also, allows the highlighting of a model section by creating a 'light colored" comment box or circle to put 'behind' model components of interest. At present adding color will only hide model components.

Ahh, I see we have a problem here. The "push to back" button is still there, but when you select the comment/box, you effectively select everything within the box as well, so push-to-back does nothing.

The only way round this at the moment is to make the box small so it does no overlap anything, then select it and hit the push to back button. Then resize it to how you want it.

I'll get this fixed ASAP.

Thanks. Also, I wasn't aware as to where the push to back option is located... found it. :-)
