Btw: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2 on different computers. Even task manager cant force-quit it, the only option is to restart the system.

Can you create a new post and document what you are doing? It might be as simple as a dialog appearing off screen.

Re: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2
Okay, I'll try that.
The errors seem to occur in two ways:
1. the programme freezes completely and no longer responds to inputs.
2. the programme emits a warning tone, as if a child window is open in the background. However, I cannot see this because the parent view is in the foreground.

Can you provide more information? What operating system, and what are you doing prior to it freezing?
My guess is that another dialog is appearing off screen. Are you using multiple monitors and maybe disconnecting one?

Re: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2
Just happened again: the second error mentioned above.
My steps were:
1. opened Vensim
2. opened a model
3. tried to copy a variable
4. -no more input possible-
There is only one window open in Vensim that I can see.
Task manager shows another unnamed instance (which I cant force quit):
/edit: OS is Windows 11 Pro, Core Ultra 5 125U, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD

Re: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2
Is this just when you try copy/paste?
Can you try Vensim when launching Windows in safe mode?
I wonder if something else is interfering with Vensim.

I'll try to monitor what causes the error. I haven't yet tried Windows safe mode.
Is there any way to find out what this instance of Vensim is?

Re: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2
It seems erratic to me what is causing Vensim to freeze.
Today it happened after:
- clicking equation editor button
- clicking start simulation button
- click shadow variable tool
Whats always the same is the unnamed instance of Vensim appearing in the task manager. I postet the screenshot twice above.

Can you send us your Vensim settings file? If you open Windows explorer and type in %APPDATA%\vensim, you'll find a file called vensimdp.ini.

I cannot see anything obvious in the file that would cause problems.
Do things improve if you turn off Tools->Options->Variable appearance, "Show underbars"?
And are you able to share a model with us in case that is at fault (vensim@vensim.com)?

Thanks, I will try it out without underbars and also with another model.
I can't share the current model as it is commercial.

Another good test would be to switch to new 10.3. When you install, you could try checking the boxes to reset settings to default.

Re: I've had 8 freezes in less than two hours of using Vensim 10.2.2
Unfortunately, our maintenance ended in 02/2025. Is there something like a trial or demo of 10.3 that we could use to test it?

I'm out of office all day (I'll contact you later), but you could try PLE.
