I want to thank everyone for the good comments and suggestions on my
questions to Limits.
I also have received quite a few personal email messages. I have not been
able to digest it all nor look at all that was suggested, but I will do so.
I felt that John Stermans comment is the summary statement: we can argue
over WHEN resources might run out, but not that they will.
My concern is that if we really are in a tragedy of the commons situation,
some new approach needs to be developed to get light, and not just heat.
But heat is also not a bad thing totally. Passion is needed to make
anything happen.
In closing, my plan is to cut and paste ideas from all the dialogue on this
and send a note to our Chairman summarizing what I hope is helpful feedback
to him. (I will get to this at some point, when Ive digested the other
data). This will take a while. If anyone who wrote to me does not want me
to use your comments in my note, please contact me.
I think those in a place of significant leadership like John Brown have
opportunity to do something about this problem, even it is just to be
considering these issues in decision making. It feels at least that
currently not much of the surety of future concerns is being factored into
current policy or decision rules.
In the meanwhile, thanks everyone.
