Systems Thinking

Post by Francis Maietta francis.maietta »

Hello

I have recently joined the Systems Dynamics group. I am currently exploring the benefits of systems thinking for management. Does anyone know of any references that identify the solutions that systems thinking offers to managers in the work environment? In other words, what type of problems does a system thinking approach solve for managers? Also - any references about the most effective way to teach systems thinking to managers? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I will post my research on this site when it takes shape.

Thank you.

Hi,

one book i find useful is Dennis Sherwood ""Seeing the forest for
the trees: a managers guide to applying system thinking"", Nichoals
Brealy, ISBN 1-85788-311-X.

Good luck.

Francis,

I´ve found Dr. Warren´s work to be an excellent
introduction to systems thinking (what he refers to as
stategy dynamics) for managers and executives.

Here´s some more info on what he teaches:
http://www.strategydynamics.com/

His book The Critical Path is a great, short
introduction to concepts that you can begin applying
to managerial problems quite quickly.

I´ve taken his course and attended his workshops. They
are excellent.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Justin
