Competitiveness in Construction

Post by Brian Dangerfield B.C.Dangerfiel »

Posted by ""Brian Dangerfield"" <B.C.Dangerfield@salford.ac.uk> I am starting to contribute some SD input to a large 3-university
team engaged on a project to explore sustainable competitiveness
in the UK construction industry.

A look through the SD Bibliography does not reveal many SD
applications in this (for pretty well all countries) very important
industry. It seems a rather neglected application area.

Can anyone offer any references or important web links? The
classic urban dynamics materials are obviously of some relevance
and we are in possession of that literature.

Also ideas on modelling industrial competitiveness generally? I
have some ideas on how to get going with this multi-dimensional
variable and I realise the generic factors involved will be different for
different industries.

Best wishes from England enjoying a nice spell of early Spring
weather.

Brian.

Check out the Lean Construction folks: http:/www.leanconstruction.org

They don't do SD modeling, but have a whole lot of information that would be useful in a modeling effort. They have developed software for construction project management, based on Lean (Toyota production system) principles, that is based on their understanding of the construction process; and they have numerous white papers describing their thinking.

Hello, Dr. Dangerfield.

A colleague at Virginia Tech suggested that Dr. Ronald Wakefield, a
professor at RMIT in Australia, might have some information to offer. He
was involved in systems projects while at Virginia Tech and his C.V. indicates that he is involved with sustainability projects in Australia.
