To the Systems Dynamics Community,
In one of the recent postings, I ran across the term *Desert Island Dynamics*.
It apparently refers to a body of basic literature in the SD field. Where can I
access it?
Inquisitively,

Desert Island Dynamics
Youre looking for "Desert island dynamics: A survey of the essential system
dynamics literature." It appears in the proceedings of the International System
Dynamics Conference, Canc#n, Mexico, 1993. (Pages 466-475.)
Copies are available from the MIT System Dynamics Group; the publication number
is D-4368. More information on obtaining publications from the MIT group is
available at its web site (http://sysdyn.mit.edu/sd-group/home.html).
John Sterman and I wrote the short piece to summarize one view of the essential
papers, books, games and software programs that have influenced the development
of the field. While we realize that our list is now dated, probably over-
emphasizes work by US system dynamicists, and doesnt include work published in
other languages, we hoped that it would serve as a means of reflecting on the
foundations of current research and practice, thus providing a catalyst for a
continuing discussion among system dynamicists on the major themes of the field
and the contributions that define them. It also serves as a good pedagogical
tool and a useful introduction to the field. So additional comments--or
alternative versions of the list--are certainly welcome!
[Hosts Note John Sterman has graciously posted this paper to this list.
I will send that posting out seperately (SD0196), and attempt to make a
single digest issue out of it as it is a little long. ]
